Static Artist Shares Character Designs for ‘Run It Back’ Suit

[ad_1]

Static: Season One artist Nikolas Draper-Ivey reveals a remixed, revitalized take on Virgil Hawkin’s original costume from his 1993 debut.

Static: Season One artist Nikolas Draper-Ivey shared designs of a new outfit for Virgil Hawkins, evocative of the teenage hero’s first appearance in the ’90s.

Dubbed the “‘Run it Back’ Starter Suit,” the outfit features detachable goggles, a black baseball cap with an X on it, and a coat with neon yellow highlights meant to be reminiscent of a firefighter’s jacket. Draper-Ivey’s designs also show a close look at Virgil’s jumpsuit, which is bordered with white lines and lightning décor.

Draper-Ivey promised Static would don a number of different costumes in the series, teasing “this is just one of many looks to come.” The artist is also responsible for the original design revealed for Static: Season One, which featured Virgil in a blue and yellow hoodie with a lightning bolt shirt reminiscent of the Flash.

Static’s “Run It Back” look harkens to his debut in “Burning Sensation,” the story within 1993’s Static #1 where the lightning-controlling hero first appeared, wearing a similar black jumpsuit and cap. Static would later gain a flowing jacket, but one that was all-yellow instead of Draper-Ivey’s more subtle design.

Static: Season One, written by Vita Ayala with Draper-Ivey and ChrisCross on art duties, is part of the Milestone Returns relaunch reviving the company’s classic heroes, including the likes of Static, Icon, Rocket and Hardware. Thus far, Static’s revised origin has shown Virgil coming to terms with his metahuman powers, battling arch-enemy Hotstreak and dealing with his family discovering his abilities — a notable change from Static’s original incarnation.
