Joel McHale praises the production and the set environment on The CW’s Stargirl, declaring he will reprise his role as Starman whenever he is needed.
While Joel McHale has only appeared sporadically throughout Stargirl as the Golden Age superhero Starman, he is eager to rejoin the production whenever his character is needed.
During an exclusive interview with CBR discussing McHale’s role as Johnny Cage in the animated film Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, the actor turned the conversation turned to Stargirl. Praising series creator Geoff Johns, and the cast, McHale was positively effusive about the production and expressed his hopes to return.
“I jumped at the opportunity, and, if they ever need me, I said I’d be there in a Georgia Minute — since that’s where we shoot it,” McHale told CBR. “Brec Bassinger is 21 and the lead and a badass and she is just fucking on it. And then you have the beautiful, wonderful and amazing Amy Smart and the set is really happy, and, that alone, is half the battle of having a great place to work. I would do this again in a heartbeat. It is so much fun.”
Appearing in the Stargirl‘s series premiere as Starman, McHale’s character appeared to be killed in a battle against the Injustice Society, only to mysteriously resurface in the final moments of Season 1’s finale. In addition to complimenting Johns and co-stars Bassinger and Smart, McHale referred to co-star Luke Wilson as one of his “comedy heroes” and called taking on a superhero role the fulfillment of a childhood dream — getting a chance to wear a costume and wield the Cosmic Staff.
Created by Geoff Johns, Stargirl airs new episodes Tuesdays at 8:00 pm ET/PT on The CW and are available to stream the following day on The CW App.
