Star Wars: 4-LOM and Zuckuss introduced a new character to the Star Wars universe who is reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy’s Rocket Raccoon.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters – 4-LOM and Suckuss #, available now from Marvel.
There is a wide variety of aliens and creatures in the Star Wars universe. While humanoids seem to make up the mass population of the galaxy, there are also plenty of Ewoks, Jawas, Hutts and many various other creatures. Star Wars just introduced a new character who looks like the ring-tailed lemurs of Earth but with a carefree devil-may-care attitude similar to the Guardians of the Galaxy’s Rocket Raccoon.
Star Wars: 4-LOM and Zuckuss by Daniel Jose Older, Kei Zama, Felipe Sobreiro and VC’s Ariana Maher picks up with Zuckuss, a Gand bounty hunter after he barely survived an explosive attack from Boba Fett. He was distraught over the loss of his bounty hunting partner 4-LOM but was able to drag his injured body to a nearby music hall. Luckily for Zuckuss, his good friend Trot was having a drink when he stumbled in.
Trot informed Zuckuss that 4-LOM’s head had been removed and taken away by Fett. He then got into a fight with some patrons in the hall who had been bothering a member of Trot’s crew. Though he is small in size, he made quick work of the much larger foes. He even attempted to remove one of his enemies’ arms, a move reminiscent yet again to Rocket. This is something that Trot apparently does often as another member of his crew suggested that they leave before he can claim a trophy from the enemy.
As they left the hall, they were accosted by 4-LOM who had been reprogrammed and given a much bigger and stronger body. 4-LOM attempted to kill Zuckuss but Trot and his crew were present and ready to defend. They kept 4-LOM at bay while Zuckuss found the reasoning behind his former partner’s change. He discovered an old nemesis who was trying to take his revenge and killed him. His enemy was responsible for 4-LOM’s new look. Zuckuss tried to revert 4-LOM by destroying his enemy’s remote control but it proved fruitless.
Trot has one of the more unique looks in the Star Wars universe and it is not because he is strange or alien. He looks exactly like a creature you would find on Earth, but with enhanced intelligence and an ability to speak. He is actually a Lurmen, and previous Star Wars media would lead one to believe that Trot is the most deadly Lurmen alive.
The Lurmen species first appeared in the Clone Wars episode “Jedi Crash.” This episode saw Anakin, Ahsoka Tano and Aayla Secura crash into a planet that was inhabited by a tribe of Lurmen. The tribe were pacifists and wanted no part in helping the Jedi as they believed both sides were at fault for the ongoing Clone War. The tribe leader changed his tune after they were attacked by the Separatists but still wondered if their role was not for the worse.
There have been a few other notable Lurmen. Jat Kaa was credited as the individual responsible for importing Coca-Cola products to the Black Spire Outpost on Batuu. There was also a Lurmen Jedi Master during the High Republic named Giktoo Nelmo.
Trot has another similarity to Rocket Raccoon besides their shared resemblance to Earth’s wildlife. Both share an affinity for stealing other people’s limbs. In the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Rocket told Peter Quill that he needed a prisoner’s prosthetic leg when the Guardians first formed, and he made an offer to the Winter Soldier for his cybernetic arm during Avengers: Infinity War. Trot also shares this obsession and continually tries to take other people’s limbs. He attempted to take one after his fight in the music hall and his fight with 4-LOM.
Now that Zuckuss is back in the War of the Bounty Hunters, he is going to need a new partner. 4-LOM is no longer up to the task since his reprogramming. Luckily, Zuckuss has just found a new crew to run with. He’ll just have to sleep with one eye open to ensure that Trot doesn’t try to steal any of his limbs.
