Star Wars Proved Why Qi’ra’s Crimson Dawn Won’t Appear in Live-Action Again

[ad_1]

The Book of Boba Fett has brought fan-favorite Star Wars bounty hunters and crime syndicates to live-action. However, one major group won’t reappear.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers from Star Wars: Crimson Reign #1-2, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Disney+ has been a major win for Star Wars fans. Older content is readily available, and there is a steady stream of new series, from The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch to Star Wars: Visions and The Book of Boba Fett. One major benefit of the small screen has been the ability to introduce some fan-favorite, animated personalities to live-action.

Characters like Cad Bane, Bo-Katan Kryze and Fennec Shand may not have enough clout to command their own films, but in their respective eras, they were important parts of a galaxy far, far away. So, the Disney+ series have given them a small enough platform to make their debuts, while they offer some much-needed continuity for post-Empire setting of The Mandalorian and its first spinoff, The Book of Boba Fett. Thus, the arrangement has been mutually beneficial for the characters and the shows, with fans winning on all fronts.

Crimson Dawn Qi'ra

Because the concept of incorporating those fan-favorite characters has worked so well, fans have begun to speculate which others could be the next brought back. One popular theory is that Qi’ra — Han’s old flame from Solo: A Star Wars Story — will make an appearance as the leader of Crimson Dawn in either The Book of Boba Fett or The Mandalorian. While that may seem feasible on the surface, it’s actually not possible. Marvel’s Star Wars: Crimson Reign, a new limited comic series by Charles Soule, Guru-eFX, Steven Cummings and VC’s Travis Lanham,  explains why Qu’ra will never return to live-action.

After Qi’ra killed Dryden Vos in Solo, she became the public face of Crimson Dawn, the crime syndicate by Maul. After Maul fell out of the picture, Crimson Dawn faded from galactic relevance. That, however, didn’t mean Qi’ra wasn’t busy. The War of the Bounty Hunter crossover showed how Qi’ra raised Crimson Dawn from the ashes by stealing Han’s carbonite-frozen body.

In Crimson Reign #1, Qi’ra finally revealed her purpose. Having assembled a conglomerate of famous Star Wars killers, she explained to them how Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader were evil, power-hungry Sith. That meant the peace and equality the Empire proposed was completely a lie, and that no one would be safe until the Sith were eliminated. That’s why Q’ra had assembled so many killers: She wanted to topple the Empire by killing its top two leaders.

Qi'ra and the fall of Crimson Dawn

Qi’ra launched her plan in Crimson Reign #2 by sending Crimson Dawn assassin Deathstick to capture Cadeliah, young heir to two rival crime syndicates, and dispatching the Sith assassin Ochi of Bestoon to kill Emperor Palpatine. The issue ended before Ochi could confront the Dark Lord, but he did poison all of Palpatine’s royal guards.

Of course, none of that explains why Qi’ra won’t appear in live-action; that came in the framing device of Crimson Reign‘s opening pages. series’ opening pages. Namely, a holocron of a character called the archivist relates the story of Crimson Dawn, which she makes clear ends in tragedy. The main timeline is even captioned “After the Fall.” So, there’s no way that Qi’ra and Crimson Dawn will make it out of the series intact. Besides, not many people challenge Palpatine and get away with it. So, there’s no way that the organization, or its leader, could show up in the post-Return of the Jedi era of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.
