Han Solo started off as a self-centered and greedy character in Star Wars. Given his rough past, Han was forced to rely on his own strength and wit in order to make ends meet. When he first met Luke, he remained focused solely on his own monetary gain, but eventually grew to care about more than solely himself.
He was confident and eager to stand up for what he believed in but was rarely patient enough to sit through any political speeches. Despite his contribution to the Rebellion, many of Han’s actions were questionable at best- while others led to the demise of others, both innocent and villainous alike.
10 He Initially Refused To Save Leia Organa
When Luke suggested saving Leia, Han immediately refused to do so. He was unwilling to risk his life for a stranger, especially considering the fact that they were already in a decent amount of danger.
Luke, realizing that he needed to try a different approach, mentioned the benefits of rescuing a beautiful princess, including a hefty monetary reward. That caught Han’s attention immediately.
9 He Left After Obtaining His Reward
After obtaining his reward for rescuing Leia, Han was eager to leave the rebels behind. He wanted nothing to do with the rebellion, much more focused on paying off his debts to Jabba the Hutt. Luke criticized his decision as being entirely selfish, but it did not stop Han from leaving.
He would eventually return to help with the destruction of the Death Star, but if he was there from the start, there may have been more survivors.
8 He Worked As A Smuggler, And Went Back To That Life After Losing His Son
Han didn’t have very many honest jobs. He specialized in smuggling different products and even had hidden compartments that helped him to complete his tasks. Despite having responsibilities, he would eventually return to that life after his son, Ben Solo, went to the dark side.
In the process, he left his wife behind. As a smuggler, he swindled multiple groups with empty promises, ascertaining that no one in the galaxy would ever want to loan him money again.
7 He Approached His Son Too Late
Han Solo did not seem to be particularly close with his son. Ben was sent to receive Jedi training after he showed potential, and both Han and Leia were convinced that Luke would be able to guide him properly.
When Ben joined the dark side, Han didn’t think he had a chance of helping his son, and completely avoided him until his wife convinced him to try talking to him. Unfortunately, Han did too little too late.
6 He Joined The Empire To Become A Pilot
Han Solo surprisingly served the Empire for a few years. His goal was to become a great pilot and to eventually reunite with Qi’ra, who he had been separated from shortly before his enrollment.
Due to his inability to follow orders, he was eventually placed in the middle of a war that was focused on invading a previously peaceful planet. When he noticed some soldiers were thieves in disguise, he immediately threatened to expose them unless they took him with them.
5 He Never Learned From His Mistakes
Throughout his life, Han made bad business decisions. More often than not, he couldn’t talk himself out of trouble. He started off working for a criminal group called the White Worms, and went on to work for the Empire, Crimson Dawn, and Jabba the Hutt.
Convinced that he would be able to easily make a lot of money quickly, he dragged Chewie through multiple bad business ventures.
4 He Piloted The Millennium Falcon Into An Asteroid Field
When he and Leia were on the run from a few Empire ships, he decided that the best course of action was to fly into an asteroid field. He was so confident in his ability to navigate it to the point of being cocky.
The pursuing TIE fighters failed to avoid the asteroids, but by some miracle, Han avoided crashing. If that wasn’t risky enough, he then proceeded to land in a cave, not realizing he placed them in the belly of a beast.
3 He Went To Lando Despite Not Trusting Him
After narrowly escaping from the Empire, Han decided to seek refuge and repairs from Lando Calrissian in Cloud City. He explicitly stated that he didn’t trust Lando, and he should have heeded his own words.
Han let his guard down around his old friend despite the fact the he was a “scoundrel”, which led to his capture and his eventual encasing in carbonite at the hands of Darth Vader.
2 He Tried To Attack C-3PO For Not Impersonating A God
While on Endor, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker were captured by a group of Ewoks. C-3PO was the only one who was not taken as a prisoner, as the natives believed him to be their god. Hoping to get out of their less-than-ideal situation, Han told C-3PO to command the Ewoks to release them.
When C-3PO refused, saying that lying would go against his programming, Han immediately moved to attack him. It wasn’t his wisest move, as the Ewoks then decided to cook the prisoners up as a meal celebrating their god.
1 He Got His Crew Killed But Had No Remorse
After meeting Finn and Rey aboard the Millennium Falcon, he told them that his latest job was to capture and transport a few Rathtars. These were terrifying and vicious creatures that didn’t hesitate to eat whatever was in reach.
Apparently, he had a large crew but lost most of its members while capturing the creatures. He didn’t seem too bothered by this, mentioning it off-hand as if it wasn’t a big deal.
