Springfield Snap Killed More MCU Heroes

[ad_1]

The Good, The Bart and The Loki’s credits gag homages Avengers: Endgame’s most shocking moment, and it’s even more brutal than the MCU version.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for The Good, The Bart and The Loki, now available on Disney+.

The Simpsons: The Good, The Bart, and The Loki packs a lot of Marvel Cinematic Universe references into its brisk run time. In true MCU fashion, that includes mid and post-credits scenes. The first credit gag recasts the climax of Avengers: Infinity War with Springfield residents and Comic Book Guy plays the part of Thanos in The Simpsons version of The Snap. Many of the casualties are represented by their “Springfield Avengers” analogs, but a few characters who survived in the film are also among the fallen.

True to Infinity War, The Simpsons versions of The Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange and Nick Fury are victims of The Snap. However, a trio of characters that survived Infinity War‘s Snap, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and Hawkeye, are also dusted. Even characters that haven’t appeared in an MCU film, The Mole Man and Giant-Man, aren’t spared. Appropriately, The Simpsons‘ Mole Man is played by the long-suffering character Hans Moleman.

The three MCU characters who became additional victims of The Simpsons‘ Snap are interesting choices. They all played pivotal roles in reversing The Snap in Avengers: Endgame. Had they been among the casualties of the first film, it’s possible that The Blip would never have happened.

Hawkeye and Ant-Man were members of the Avengers Time Heist team. They were also present for the climactic battle with Thanos. Hawkeye was a particularly crucial part of the Time Heist, as his presence prompted Black Widow’s sacrifice on Vormir, which earned the team the Soul Stone. It’s possible that no other pairing of characters would have netted the Avengers the stone.

Beyond giving the world an iconic line about Captain America’s glutes, Ant-Man was pivotal in Endgame‘s Time Heist. His knowledge of the Quantum Realm gave the Avengers the hope and inspiration they needed to reverse The Snap via time travel. If not for him, Tony Stark may have never been coaxed out of retirement to save the day.

Captain Marvel made a last-minute appearance in Endgame, but she was also pivotal in defeating Thanos. Her dramatic entrance turned the tide of the climactic battle between the Avengers and Thanos’s forces. She kept Thanos from performing The Snap again. Her ability to brush off his attacks kept Thanos preoccupied long enough for Iron Man to steal the Infinity Stones and perform a Snap of his own.

While Captain Marvel would have been among the heroes returning in the Blip if she had been part of The Snap, it’s possible she wouldn’t have had the same impact. Her role as the cavalry was crucial to the Avengers’ success, rallying the heroes at a crucial moment. Thanos would better prepared for her had she not made a sudden appearance, if nothing else.

How Captain Marvel, Hawkeye and Ant-Man being part of The Snap would have affected the events of Endgame is worthy of an episode of What If…? The Snap was such a pivotal moment in MCU history that any alternative version leads to thoughts of how the story would have been altered. That’s even true of a Simpsons‘ gag.

The Good, The Bart and The Loki stars the voices of Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Maurice LaMarche, Dawnn Lewis and Tom Hiddleston. The short is now available on Disney+.
