In Amazing Spider-Man #85, Doctor Octopus proves himself superior to two key characters from the Netflix Marvel TV series.
Marvel Comics has provided CBR with an exclusive preview of Amazing Spider-Man #85, by Cody Ziglar, Paco Medina, Walden Wong, Wayne Faucher, Andrew Hennessy, Victor Olazaba, Roberto Poggi, Espen Grundetjern and VC’s Joe Caramagna. In the preview, Doctor Otto Octavius bests two heroes who featured prominently on Netflix’s Marvel TV series: Misty Knight and Colleen Wing.
Previously in Amazing Spider-Man, Peter Parker/Spider-Man was injured during a fight against the U-Foes, giving Ben Reilly the chance to step up and prove himself worthy of the mantle. However, Ben eventually found himself against Doc Ock. After Doc Ock bested Ben, he attacked the headquarters of the Beyond Corporation, which has been backing the new Spider-Man.
At the start of Amazing Spider-Man #85, Ben swings into action, moving as vast as he can to confront the villain. The book then jumps to Doc Ock fighting against Misty and Colleen. He grabs hold of Misty and then tosses her and Colleen into a room, locking them both inside. Misty, for her part, says, “I can’t believe we just lost to #$%& Dr. Octopus!” Doc Ock then continues his rampage and reaches his target: Maxine Danger. Before he can do her mortal harm, though, Spider-Man swings in.
Colleen and Misty were both prominent characters in Marvel’s Netflix series. Colleen made her debut in Iron Fist and was a staple of the series. Despite generally negative reviews for Iron Fist, Colleen proved a fan-favorite character. At the end of the series, she officially teamed up with Misty, who played a key role in both Luke Cage and Iron Fist. At this time, it’s not clear how canon those portrayals are to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
