Media personality Kim Kardashian gets backlash from Spider-Man: No Way Home fans after posting spoiler-filled images from the film on social media.
WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home, now in theaters.
High-profile socialite Kim Kardashian posted spoiler-filled images from Spider-Man: No Way Home on social media, and fans are not happy about it.
On Dec. 27, Kardashian posted photos on her Instagram story showing No Way Home playing on what appeared to be a large home theater screen. While that itself may not have created such an uproar, the photos revealed major spoilers from the third act of the film, where all three big-screen iterations of Spider-Man — Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield — team up against the film’s numerous villains. As of this writing, Kardashian has at least 274 million Instagram followers, many of whom made their distress known on Twitter after seeing the images.

Kardashian posted the No Way Home images roughly 10 days after the film’s Dec. 17 wide release. While the amount of time one should wait to post major information without a warning is still widely debated among fans, it’s clear some believe even more than a week after release is too soon to start posting spoilers about No Way Home.
The concept of “spoiling” upcoming or recently released films and TV shows by revealing inside information has become a hotly discussed topic over the past decade or so. The rise of hugely popular franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Extended Universe and the latest Star Wars entries have contributed to fans’ collective wish not to be spoiled on their favorite properties before they get to see them. Official social media accounts for highly anticipated films like No Way Home have started using hashtags discouraging viewers from spoiling anything during opening weekend, even going so far as to recommend fans stay off social media until they’re able to see the film.
Several multiversal characters were revealed to take part in No Way Home during its marketing push, though many others weren’t confirmed until the film hit theaters. Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Trilogy and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man films were among the first to be unveiled. A mid-2021 rumor claimed Charlie Cox would make his MCU debut as Matt Murdock, a role he originated in Netflix’s Daredevil series, which was proven true when he appeared onscreen as Peter Parker and Aunt May’s lawyer. Most notably, rumors raged all year that Maguire and Garfield would appear in the film as different versions of Peter Parker, with Garfield and Holland forced to lie about the elder Spider-Men’s involvement leading up to No Way Home‘s release.
For those who haven’t yet had the pleasure, Spider-Man: No Way Home is in theaters now. Given the film’s dual ownership between Disney-owned Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment, it’s currently unknown if and when the film will be available for streaming.
