Skyrim Fans Discover a Missed Opportunity to Harvest Honey

[ad_1]

Even 10 years after the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, fans are still making new discoveries — like how to harvest honey from a distance.

One of the reasons The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim continues to grip players in its thrall after more than 10 years on the market is that, even after all this time, it still manages to surprise people. Whether it’s the discovery some lost cave and adventure, or simply happening upon a harvesting technique that’s always been hidden in plain sight, Skyrim never seems to stop feeling new.

With its many expansions and rereleases, fans continue to find themselves drawn back into Skyrim‘s magic and mystery. Recently, players have discovered a previously unknown way to harvest more honey from beehives, giving the alchemists of Skyrim even more to keep them occupied.

What are Beehives Used for In Skyrim?

Cooking and Alchemy have been a part of Skyrim since launch, giving players the opportunity to craft their own potions and put together meals designed to give them buffs before they head out into the battlefield. It wasn’t until the introduction of the Hearthfire DLC, however, that alchemy ingredients Bees, Honeycomb and Beehive Husks were added to the game.

These three ingredients have magical properties that contribute to potion making. Beehive husks provide poison resistance, fortified sneaking, fortified light armor and fortified destruction magic. Honeycombs contributes to restoring and ravaging stamina, fortifying light armor and blocking. Bees also restore and ravage stamina, while also improving stamina regeneration and causing a weakness to shock magic.

Where to Find Beehives

Beehives can be found all over Skyrim and tend to be relatively easy for the Dragonborn to reach. Often tucked away in the low-hanging branches of trees or in the upper corners of wooden structures, they can be sometimes be knocked down with a Dragon Shout or a weapon strike, then searched to harvest bees, honeycomb and the beehive husk itself.

Inactive or dormant hives do not contain honeycomb, but may offer a dead bee or two, as well as a husk. Active hives often have a mild swarm of bees buzzing outside, though they won’t attack the Dragonborn. Players should be wary, however, of any nearby bears, as they are often drawn to beehives and will gladly fight those who would try to steal their plunder.

How to Shoot Down Out of Reach Hives

Skyrim Beehive In a tree

For years, many thought some beehives were simply there as scenery and chose to leave them alone. However, those players were missing out on valuable alchemy supplies. Many hives seem out of reach because they are perched up in tree branches, but they can still be harvested with a little effort.

Firing an arrow at a beehive can knock it out of the tree and to the ground, where it can be harvested for alchemy supplies. The Unrelenting Force dragon shout can also loosen it from its tethers so it drops it at the Dragonborn’s feet. In fact, just about any weapon or magic that creates projectiles can be used to knock beehives to the ground to get those sweet ingredients that make for more powerful potions. This little hack is sure to keep the Dragonborn entertained for years to come — or at least until the next Elder Scrolls game is finally released.
