Shimajirō Voice Actress Saori Sugimoto Passes Away at 58 – News

Talent management agency Aoni Production announced on Friday that voice actress Saori Sugimoto passed away on October 21 due to congestive heart failure associated with anorexia. She was 58. Her family held a private funeral on Thursday.

Sugimoto is best known for voicing the character Ramurin Makiba in the Shimajirō children’s anime franchise, a role she has voiced since the beginning of the 1993 anime Shima Shima Tora no Shimajirou. She was also the second voice actress to voice the character Kisanta Yamamura in the Nintama Rantaro anime, taking over the role from Tomiko Suzuki. In Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, she voiced the character Catherine Bloom.
