In its second weekend of release, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sees a major worldwide box office achievement.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings seized an impressive global box office achievement in its second weekend of theatrical release.
According to Deadline, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings blasted through the $250 million threshold at the worldwide box office. This came after it dipped just 34 percent and 53 percent internationally and domestically, respectively, bringing it to a $257.6 million global haul. Shang-Chi remained the number one movie in several major markets, including Australia, Brazil and North America.
With this gross, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is currently the eighth biggest movie of 2021 at the worldwide box office and the sixth biggest globally when talking exclusively about American films. Even with these impressive achievements, it remains uncertain when, if ever, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will premiere in the world’s largest moviegoing territory, China, following a series of controversies revolving around the comic book character’s problematic roots and star Simu Liu.
The biggest individual markets for Shang-Chi include its $145.5 million domestic total as well as a $16.4 million gross in the United Kingdom and $10.7 million in Korea. This newest Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure has also amassed $21 million globally from IMAX venues, which includes $8.6 million from an assortment of foreign territories.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is now playing in theaters.
