Season of the Lost Reveals Osiris Was Actually Savathûn

[ad_1]

Destiny 2’s latest season brings with it some huge revelations, leading with a massive revelation about what’s actually going on with Osiris.

Warning! The following contains spoilers for Destiny 2: Season of the Lost, available now.

Destiny 2 players have been treated to some massive revelations recently. During the final moments of the previous season, Season of the Splicer, Lakshmi-2 and Osiris conspire to open a Vex gateway in The Last City, endangering both its new Eliksni inhabitants and long-time residents. The Vanguard doesn’t understand Osiris’ intentions and hopes that they’ve misunderstood some piece of evidence. Osiris is revered as a hero by many and is even closer to others, like Saint-14. Even with all information pointing toward collaboration between the Future War Cult leader and the legendary Warlock, some can’t accept Osiris’ betrayal.

Now, in Season of the Lost, players have learned that they haven’t been interacting with Osiris at all. Instead, Guardians inadvertently let the Hive god of lies into their midsts. Osiris’ actual location remains a mystery, but Guardians have a new priority to attend. Savathûn infiltrated the Tower and has now backed the Vanguard into a corner by assuming Osiris’ form for some time.

Mara Sov and Savathûn, who has taken Osiris' form, confront the Guardians.

Savathûn, the Witch Queen, is a powerful Hive god known for her scheming and nefarious plans. Before Season of the Lost, the closest players ever got to interacting with her directly was during the Expunge Activities in Season of the Splicer. The Hive god of lies has been a focus in Destiny 2‘s narrative for a while, shaping up to become the primary antagonist. Now, players are finally getting some of their questions answered before The Witch Queen releases. Primarily, what are Savathûn’s plans, and what happened to Osiris?

There was still some shadow of doubt for Osiris’ supporters, but players already knew he’d betrayed The Last City. They saw as he watched passively while his friends and allies struggled to repel the invading Vex forces during the battle. It was the latest example of Osiris acting out of character. Throughout the Beyond Light expansion, the Warlock had taken a spotlight in nearly every season, often making bold and questionable decisions. He was the voice that called for The Crow (Uldren Sov) to be brought into the Vanguard; he laid the groundwork for the relationships that began with the Cabal and Eliksni.

As it turns out, this was all part of the machinations of Savathûn. Since the Warlock entered the Ascendant Plane during Season of the Hunt, the Witch Queen acted in Osiris’ place. When Osiris returned, he was without his Ghost, Sagira, and claiming to be without his Light. In actuality, this was Savathûn in disguise. No one second-guessed why Osiris couldn’t use his Warlock powers or why he was behaving differently; they attributed it to him losing his Ghost.

An early tease of Dstiny 2's Witch Queen, Savathûn.

In the opening moments of Season of the Lost, Savathûn/Osiris reveal the truth to Guardians during their reunion with Mara Sov. Still in disguise as Osiris, the Witch Queen tells players they’ve only been acting in the interest of humanity. Savathûn claims she’s broadened our alliances, helped us understand the Darkness and revealed hidden threats to The Last City. Technically, she’s not wrong, but there is undoubtedly some ulterior motive at work. We know from Destiny 2‘s The Witch Queen Showcase Savathûn will be the primary antagonist of the upcoming expansion. That said, she claims she’s just hiding from her brother, Xivu Arath.

Savathûn is undoubtedly setting up events that will lead to her acquisition of the Light. Season of the Lost asks players to help free the Hive god from the parasitic worm present in the species; that’ll likely be the first step in her ascension. Osiris’ return is the reward for players’ cooperation. Savathûn has Guardians in a bad place, with the safety of one of our allies hanging in the balance.

While a lot of this information was part of the leak that dropped just after Season of the Splicer, players are now seeing the events play out in real-time. The Hive god of lies laid out the perfect trap for Guardians, and we all took the bait. Savathûn has the Vanguard where she wants them, and all players can do for the time being is cooperate.
