Let’s dissect key moments in the Season 2 trailer for Superman & Lois and how it feels like the show will create Clark’s deadliest enemies yet.
In the Season 2 trailer for Superman & Lois, it’s clear Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark Kent and his family will be facing a life of turmoil once more. We’re seeing how Kal-El’s powers will be on the fritz, plus problems with Lois Lane and the Super Sons will be cropping up. But needling down into the villains being teased, it does feel like the show will be creating Clark’s deadliest enemies yet as they’ll have epic power and know his secret identity.
The first enemy is none other than John Henry Irons’ daughter, Natalie. She arrived in a ship at the end of Season 1, leaving Lois stunned. Now, we see Natalie is struggling to adjust with this person who looks like her mom, as well as how John and this Superman have become friends and partners.
After all, an evil Superman killed Lois on Natalie’s world, so she just can’t stand the idea of any Man of Steel being an ally after losing her mother. She’s spotted yelling at her dad, questioning his trust, which could result in Nat forming a scheme in secret. She helped build John’s Steel exo-suit so she could make another armor, or even use Kryptonite for weapons.
She could potentially even work with villains like Lex Luthor, per the comics, to gain energy-blasting powers like her Starlight persona, or gas/cloud-controlling abilities as Vaporlock. The point is, it’d be easy to picture her targeting Superman and levelling herself up if she thinks her dad’s been fooled by the Kents. And going after revenge would make her one of the show’s most sympathetic villains.
Another villain who could take Clark out is the Lt. Anderson, another new figure entering Season 2. He’s going to be working for the Department of Defense, acting as Superman’s liaison, but he’s already bickering with Kal-El as he hates how Superman isn’t following his nationalist agenda to defend America alone.
This creates a civil war at the DoD, providing an even more irate version of Sam Lane. It doesn’t even seem like Anderson will listen to Sam too, so that just gives an unhinged war-lover free reign. In addition, Anderson could always tap into the weapons from Project 7734 that were meant to kill Kal-El. Sam said he decommissioned them, but Anderson can easily find ways to revive and make them deadlier with his position.
More so, given that Superman’s secret of being Clark as a civilian hasn’t been well-kept and the DoD has been protecting the Kent farm, once Anderson can confirm and exploit that, he’ll be playing mental games too, just as much as physical ones. It’ll crank what Sam could be up to 10 as Anderson ultimately frames Kal as an enemy of the state for all of America to hate and attack, pouncing when he may be in his most vulnerable state ever.
Superman & Lois Season 2 premieres Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
