Scott Derrickson Praises Sam Raimi After Seeing Doctor Strange 2 Trailer

[ad_1]

Doctor Strange, directed by Scott Derrickson in 2016, introduced Benedict Cumberbatch as the Master of the Mystic Arts to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many people were surprised to learn that Marvel was considering Scott Derrickson, best known for horror films like Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, to direct Doctor Strange. However, after multiple pitch meetings, Derrickson persuaded the studio that he was the ideal person for the job and was eventually hired to helm the film. Doctor Strange was also co-written by Derrickson, and his distinct vision was one of the reasons for the film’s popularity.

Derrickson quickly agreed to return for the sequel, and Kevin Feige described it as “legitimately disturbing” but not quite a real horror film. But soon afterward, Marvel and Derrickson had creative disagreements, which led to the director’s departure from the project.

Apparently, Scott is still on excellent terms with the studio and will serve as an executive producer on Doctor Strange 2. Sam Raimi, the director of Spider-Man and Evil Dead, was eventually brought on board to direct Doctor Strange 2, with Loki writer Michael Waldron creating a new screenplay. The first full-length trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was recently released by Marvel, and it is currently trending globally. The teaser is a blast, with loads of shocks and even confirms Sir Patrick Stewart’s return as Professor X.

Scott Derrickson, like everyone else, is thrilled for Doctor Strange 2 and expressed his thoughts on Twitter when asked what he thought of the new teaser.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is arguably the most anticipated movie of 2022, with rumors of Iron Man, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and even Ghost Rider’s involvement swirling all over the Internet. Doctor Strange 2 stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular superhero, with Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rachel McAdams reprising their roles from the first film. Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston also star in the film, along with Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6, 2022.
