The Nintendo Switch’s Definitive Edition of RWBY: Grimm Eclipse is getting a physical release courtesy of Limited Run.
A physical version of RWBY: Grimm Eclipse – Definitive Edition was announced during the RWBY panel at this year’s installment of Rooster Teeth’s RTX at Home virtual convention. Shortly after the announcement was made, listings for the game went live on Limited Run’s website.
Two physical editions of Grimm Eclipse are currently available for pre-order — both of which are exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. There is the standard edition, which retails for $39.99 USD and simply includes a region-free physical copy of the game with a full color manual. There is also the Collector’s Edition, which retails for $89.99 and adds a 9-inch shadow box, a sticker set, a poster, a metal keychain and four enamel pins to the deal. Pre-orders for both editions begin on July 16 and end on Aug. 15.
Based on Rooster Teeth’s popular anime-inspired series RWBY, Grimm Eclipse began life in 2014 as a fan game (originally titled RWBY: Grim Eclipse) developed by Jordan Scott, with Rooster Teeth Games bringing Scott aboard to help with its in-house development of an official version. Grimm Eclipse initially released for the PC via Steam Early Access in late 2015, with full PC and Macintosh versions officially arriving in 2016. The game made its way to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles in 2017.
Earlier this year, Rooster Teeth partnered with developer Aspyr for RWBY: Grimm Eclipse – Definitive Edition, a Nintendo Switch-exclusive version of the game that includes all of its DLC/content updates, plus brand-new content. The game released digitally for the Switch on May 13.
