Recently, Switch owners got a chance to play through .hack//G.U. Last Recode, a collection containing the once PS2-exclusive .hack//G.U. trilogy, which includes a brand new chapter, Reconnection. But these aren’t the only .hack games, let alone even the first. And Bandai Namco might be making a move regarding the first four games.
The studio filed a trademark for “Last Recollection” in both Japan and Europe on 1st Apr. Fortunately, this doesn’t seem to be a joke despite the date, as this was only uncovered this weekend, and it’s got fans’ tongues wagging.
The name fits the pattern, right? Last Recollection? Last Recode? It certainly seems like a collection of games that will “look back”, which would make sense given that the four .hack games that haven’t seen a rerelease came out before the G.U trilogy.
Often referred to as .hack//Games or .hack//IMOQ, these all launched on the PS2 between June 2002 and April 2003 in Japan and focus on protagonist Kite, as opposed to the sequel trilogy focusing on Haseo. The games in this initial quadrilogy are .hack//INFECTION, .hack//MUTATION, .hack//OUTBREAK, and .hack//QUARANTINE.
This is all just speculation at the moment, but it seems silly not to bring the first four games together and ensure the entire .hack game series is accessible to all. Or this could be a brand new IP. We’ll have to wait and see what Bandai Namco is up to.
Would you like to see the .hack/IMOQ games get a rerelease on Switch? Let us know in the comments.
