Ridley Scott Working on Pilot for Upcoming ‘Blade Runner’ TV Series

Ridley Scott, the filmmaker of the sci-fi classics Blade Runner and Alien, informed the BBC on Monday that Blade Runner is going to be adapted into a television series and shared that a pilot for an Alien program is also currently being developed. Scott directed the first Blade Runner film in 1982. Denis Villeneuve took over as director for Blade Runner 2049, the 2017 sequel.

It’s likely that the Alien show Scott referenced is the one currently under development for FX by Legion creator Noah Hawley and announced by Disney last December. Scott directed the first Alien film in 1979, with three sequels and two Alien vs. Predator spinoffs directed by others. He later returned to the franchise to direct two prequels, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant

The Blade Runner project is something new that Scott discussed with the BBC that is distinct from the anime series Blade Runner: Black Lotus, which debuted on Adult Swim earlier this month. Blade Runner’s pilot episode has already been written, as has an ongoing series framework laid out of what would happen.
