Edge of Darkness has just introduced a brand new source of pure Grid Energy and it could very well be the exact thing that the heroes need.

The Power Rangers universe has just gotten bigger than ever with the recent release of Edge of Darkness. This latest entry into the franchise has just brought thrilling new takes on classic fan-favorite characters into the spotlight, and with them a whole new dimension to the universe they inhabit. While the Morphin Grid has long been the figurative, occasionally literal center of the Power Rangers universe, a brand new source of its power has just been introduced that could very well end the Empyreal threat where it stands. That is, assuming it still exists in the present day at all.
Over ten thousand years ago, Master Vile and his Tenga Warriors were on a relentless hunt for a young girl who could act as host to Dark Specter. Thankfully, the girl had not only her mother looking out for her, but something of a guardian angel as well. After making himself known to them and their assailants, the Phantom Ranger was gravely injured while helping Lady Fienna and her daughter Rita escape. While the combined magics of Fienna and Rita were enough to keep the Phantom Ranger alive, they couldn’t repair all of the damage done to him on their own. In desperate need of recharging his suit, Fienna alters their escape course that had been set for Zordon’s coordinates to a wellspring of Morphin Energy the likes of which has never been seen outside of the Grid itself – The Masterforge.
As the Phantom Ranger explains it, the Masterforge is a space station built on top of a Grid-Sensitive location in the universe, made to act as a batter of sorts for the raw Morphin Energy that it collected. This would then be used to power amazing machines, presumably Zords if not more than even those. Lady Fienna is surprisingly unphased by all of these revelations, though it makes sense as she and her former husband had spent years studying the Grid as deeply as they possibly could. Fienna even surmises that one of the “machines” powered by the Masterforge is the Phantom Ranger himself, who she had seen bleeding raw Grid Energy as a result of his earlier injuries.
Between the aid provided by Fienna and Rita earlier and the jolt of Grid Energy he is given in the Masterforge, the Phantom Ranger returns to fighting shape just in time to learn of Fienna’s plan to stop Dark Specter in his tracks. By exposing Rita to the pure Grid Energy, Fienna believes they can make her body hostile to Dark Specter’s presence, leaving him without a host to inhabit in our universe. This is far from a bad idea, though it is one that could be explored in even greater fashion, potentially to be harnessed against Dark Specter directly. Unfortunately, doing so would require the Masterforge to still exist, and only moments after infusing Rita with its power thousands of years ago the station was destroyed completely by Master Vile himself.
Of course, the Phantom Ranger is still very much alive in the present even after so many years, and that coupled with the fact that he had eluded to there being more than a few stations such as the Masterforge scattered across the universe gives hope to its power being used again in the present. With the threat of the Empyreals looming ever closer to Earth, and the Power Rangers’ greatest allies having their own secret ties to the evil machinations of Dark Specter, there aren’t many places left for the Rangers to turn for help.
If there is in fact another Masterforge out there among the stars somewhere, it could very well be just the weapon that the heroes need to save reality as we know it. Then again, with the history of Grid Energy being broken and twisted, another source of power like that could also spell doom for everyone if the Power Rangers can’t get to it first.
