Power Rangers Reveals What Really Brought Zordon’s World Down

[ad_1]

The secret history of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has been revealed and could explain everything that’s happened in the present.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Mighty Morphin #10, available now from Boom! Studios.

The secret history of the Guardians of Eltar has been slowly unraveling in the pages of Mighty Morphin since the series began, and it has all seemingly led to this very moment. Lord Zedd has taken it upon himself to paint the entire picture of just how the events of the past have left such a devastating impact on the present, and in doing so he has revealed what really caused the world that Zordon knew to fall apart. Before the Power Rangers were formed, a threat greater than any other existed within the Council of Eltar, or rather existed as the Council itself. In fact, if it hadn’t been for the Council’s own bureaucratic shortcomings, there might have never been a need for the Power Rangers in the first place.

Over ten thousand years ago, the Guardians of Eltar stumbled upon Bandora Palace, and within it the legendary Zeo Crystal. While Zordon had faith that there was some truth to the myths surrounding this impossibly powerful artifact, the Supreme Guardian Zophram chose to wait for guidance from the Council of Eltar before proceeding in any particular direction regarding their recent discovery. Unfortunately, if there was anything that the Council was known for, it was being thoroughly diligent to the point of ineptitude. Endless debate about the merits and ethics of utilizing the Zeo Crystal had seemingly removed the necessary unanimous decision from the realm of possibility. No matter how much Zophram pressed, the Council could not come to a decision, and so the Supreme Guardian took it upon himself to increase security surrounding the Crystal without the Council’s permission.

While this was without question an appropriate response to the situation, it wasn’t made in time to prevent Dark Specter’s most lethal assassin from slaughtering their way through guards and clerics to claim the Zeo Crystal for themselves. Though Zophram and Zordon were able to keep the artifact safe, it nearly cost Zordon his life at the hands of the mystery assailant. Regardless of the fact that Zordon managed to recover from what should have ended his life, that his injuries on top of the infiltration of Bandora Palace didn’t make the situation any more grave of a concern in the Council’s eyes drove Zophram to shed his typically stoic demeanor entirely.

In Mighty Morphin #10 by Ryan Parrott, Dan Mora, Raul Angulo, Jose Enrique Fernandez, and Ed Dukeshire, the Supreme Guardian’s rage and frustration boil over into an explosive rant about the incompetency of the Council’s infinite cycle of “thoughtful contemplation,” only for him to be rebuked in kind by those on the receiving end of his bellowing fury. This sort of infighting would be eerily reminiscent of the same sort of breakdowns that have been happening between Zordon and the Rangers in the present, but this verbal confrontation between the Council and Zophram is one that will have far greater consequences than any falling out between the likes of Billy Cranston or Tommy Oliver.

Zophram has already betrayed the Council’s trust by undertaking the security efforts surrounding the Zeo Crystal on his own, and even that only barely protected it at what could have been an unacceptable cost. Now that the Supreme Guardian has shown his willingness to defy the Council both openly and in secret, there is no telling what lengths he might go in order to protect the people he cares about the most.

It’s hard to imagine of anything more damning than this that could tear Eltar’s two superpowers apart, and from the looks of things no one will have to if they want to see the Guardians and Council go to war.
