Power Rangers Reveals the SHOCKING Truth Behind the Empyreals

[ad_1]

In the latest issue of Power Rangers, the dark, shocking truth about the mission of the world-destroying Empyreals is finally revealed.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Power Rangers #8 by Ryan Parrott, Francesco Mortarino, Gilbey Ibarra, Raul Angulo, Jose Enrique Fernandez, and Ed Dukeshire, on sale now.

The Omega Rangers have been chasing a threat that they have little hope of stopping on their own, and they have few if any allies left to help them in the fight. Even the Mighty Morphin team back on Earth have recently become aware of how high the stakes truly are. Unfortunately, things have gone from bad to worse as the terrible secret behind the Empyreals has just been revealed, and with that comes the revelation that even the heroes’ most powerful allies are not to be trusted.

The Omega Rangers have had a hard enough time tracking down and keeping up with the Empyreals as it is, and when the Emperor of Hartunia decided to turn on them instead of heeding their warning they only barely made it out alive. This doesn’t help stave off the Empyreal’s arrival, though, and soon enough the entire planet is face to face with their imminent destruction. Even with the Omega Rangers’ help in both battling the invading monster and evacuating any Hartunians willing to leave their world behind, the heroes are only able to save a handful of souls before the entire planet is wiped out.

The Empyreal promises both the Rangers and its master that Hartunia will in a few billion years give form to a new breed of life, one which could prove worthy of the right to exist. For as long as the Rangers have been aware of the Empyreals, they have always believed them to be heralds of Dark Specter. However, the issue later reveals that the true master of the Empyreals is someone the Rangers believed to be an ally, Zartus, the Golden Guardian of Eltar.

First introduced in 2020’s Mighty Morphin #1 by Ryan Parrott and Marco Renna, Zartus was the Silver Guardian alongside Zordon as the Bronze Guardian over ten thousand years ago. Under the command of then Supreme Guardian Zophram, they traveled the universe searching out new worlds and protecting them from the forces of evil. They were also the ones who stumbled upon the ruins of Bandora Palace, and within its walls the impossibly powerful Zeo Crystal.

While it has been centuries since that time, Zartus is still very much alive, and has even risen to the rank of Supreme Guardian after all of these years. As it turns out, he is also the one pulling the strings behind the Empyreals’ seemingly random acts of mass cosmic genocide. From the way the Empyreal that destroyed Hartunia spoke of the planet, its people lived up to neither the standards of itself nor its master, and as such it had to be destroyed. Between this and the fact that Zartus has very recently offered humanity a place in the Galactic Alliance, it is becoming quite clear just what Zartus’ true intentions most likely are.

All things considered, it is probably safe to assume that Zartus has appointed himself as judge, jury, and executioner of all sentient life in the universe. Assuming this is true, it is a far cry from what the Guardians of Eltar originally stood for. Not only does this beg the question of when the Guardians became a malevolent force, but how much of that transformation was due to Zartus’ own hand in things.

This new development also begs the question of whether or not there is any truth to the horror stories about the Rangers that Astronema and Ecliptor shared with the Omega Rangers on Onyx. This also likely leaves not just the Omega Rangers, but the Mighty Morphin team back on Earth with no one left to trust but themselves, and even that is becoming increasingly difficult these days.
