Pokémon Legends Arceus: How to Shiny Hunt

[ad_1]

Thanks to the game’s new mechanics, Shiny Pokémon encounters are different in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Here is what every trainer should know.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus may have introduced new game mechanics, but it has undoubtedly kept the franchise’s trademark features. While some were adjusted to accommodate the game’s unique setting, none have undergone drastic changes that would make the fans question their decision to support the company’s endeavors.

As one of the players’ favorites, Shiny Pokémon return in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, along with a new take on the overworld events and gameplay aspects that were not present in previous Pokémon installments. The latest entry introduces several changes to the Shiny Pokémon mechanics, which many are already familiar with from the main series. With a generously revamped spawning system, Pokémon Legends: Arceus makes the task of tracking down and catching Shiny Pokémon less difficult for both new and veteran trainers alike.

Unlike other Pokémon games, where trainers have to engage in combat to find out if the Pokémon in question is a Shiny, Shiny Pokémon are visible in Legends‘ overworld and players can easily spot them when exploring the map or tending to other in-game activities. In addition to the usual visuals, Shiny Pokémon make a distinct sound when they spawn. The game goes to great lengths to promote their visibility and overhauls catch notifications by adding Shiny portraits and images that are now also visible in the party scrollbar.

Despite the overworld changes that increase the possibility of encountering Shiny Pokémon, Game Freak has kept the probability rate intact. The odds of a Shiny spawning remain 1/4096, but there are a few ways for the players to significantly improve the odds while making the most of chance encounters by taking advantage of the save state. In Legends, any Shinies spawned in the overworld remain there even if the game is reset. As such, trainers can save their progress before battling a Shiny Pokémon and reset the game state to get another chance at catching it if their first attempt is unsuccessful.

Players can also raise the odds of encountering Shiny Pokémon at certain points in the game by finishing the storyline and completing Pokédex. They can also ensure that the odds improve selectively by upgrading the Species Research Level of the desired Pokémon to Level 10. This will result in the encounter rate going down to 1/2048. Trainers can then further increase the Shiny appearances of the Pokémon in question by obtaining Species Research Perfect after finishing its page, which will warrant a 1/1024 encounter rate.

Another way for the players to boost the overall odds of Shiny Pokémon encounters in Legends is by acquiring the Shiny Charm. However, getting the accessory is no easy feat, as it requires a lot of time and patience. Trainers can return to the Professor to relieve him of the coveted Shiny Charm only once they have finished the main story, completed their Pokédex and increased the Species Research Level of every entry to Level 10. The Shiny Charm will set the base odds of Shiny encounters to 1/1128, and when combined with a Species Research Level 10 for a specific Pokémon, the odds will go down to 1/820. Similarly, when in tandem with a Species Research Perfect, the encounter rate will improve and remain at 1/586.

Game Freak has further expanded on the visibility of Shiny Pokémon in the overworld by incorporating a new mechanic called Mass Outbreak. These special events in which a small group of Pokémon congregates for a set time will help the players catch Shinies more efficiently because of the improved spawn rates. The base odds of Shiny Pokémon encounters during Mass Outbreaks drop to 1/158.02 and can be modified to 1/152.19 with the help of Species Research Level 10 and 1/137.02 if the trainers have both Species Research Level 10 and Species Research Perfect. Furthermore, combining the Shiny Charm with Species Research Level 10 and Species Research Perfect will yield the best results and set the Shiny encounter rate to 1/128.49 during a Mass Outbreak.

Although new gameplay aspects will help the trainers on their quest to locate and catch Shiny Pokémon residing in the Hisui region, some options that were present in previous games are excluded from this installment. As the players progress with the story, they will find that they cannot breed Shinies or utilize the Masuda Method because eggs are no longer available. That said, the lock on Starter and Legendary Pokémon has not been lifted, so aspiring trainers should not expect to come across their respective Shiny versions during their adventures in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
