Paramount is Very Anxious to Get Scream 6 Production Underway

Paramount and Spyglass are headed back to Woodsboro. A sixth installment of the Scream franchise has been greenlit, with the creative team from the successful 2022 film back in action, THR reports. Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct again, with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick returning to pen the script. Production is slated to begin this summer.

“We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film. We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence writers, Jamie & Guy and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family,” Spyglass and Paramount said in a joint statement.

Scream was viewed by many as more than a basic sequel even before it hit theaters in January, since it was always designed as a restart of the franchise with the idea of following it up with further films. The original franchise stars were keen to make it obvious during promotional interviews that they were not only thrilled to be back for the fifth film, but that they would also be open to returning in the future. Neve Campbell even stated that she might return in another film if the material piqued her attention.

Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak will produce. Kevin Williamson, who created the franchise 25 years ago with his genre-skewering script, will executive produce, as will Radio Silence member Chad Villella and Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre.

The latest Scream successfully relaunched the franchise when it opened in January. To date, it has earned $62.6 million domestically and has a combined global haul of $106.7 million. It brought audiences back to Woodsboro, where a new killer wearing a Ghostface mask stalked a group of young friends. Now the studio wants to quickly strike while fans are eager for more.
