“David Bowie was going to make a superhero movie about her. Billy Idol has a tattoo of her. And now, 50 years since her debut, celebrate the return of one of the most enigmatic comic book characters that you’ve never heard of,” the official preview article reads.
Dead Good describes Octobriana With Love as an “all-star graphic novel celebrating the 50th anniversary of the cult underground Russian superhero by an exciting mix of creative talent.” The book sees “Octobriana and her underground take on a daring rescue mission above the skies of a near future Britain to rescue Lucretia Hussain, a young vlogger destined to be a figurehead for a future revolution. To correct the course of history Octobriana clashes with her ancient nemesis Baba Yaga, leading Octobriana to relive her past and setting the stage for a whole new universe of adventures.”
A superhero based around communist ideals, Octobriana was created by Petr Sadecký, who did so by modifying the work done by Bohumil Konečný and Zdeněk Burian for an unpublished comic book Sadecký commissioned them for. The character made her first official appearance in Sadecký’s political art book Octobriana and the Russian Underground, which was published by Tom Stacey in 1971. Octobriana made her first comic book appearance a few years later in 1978’s Near Myths #3.
Written by Stephanie Phillips, Stu Taylor and Andrea Towers and illustrated by Simon Fraser, Marc Laming, N. Steven Harris, Andy Belanger, Stephen Byrne, Nicole Goux, Juni Ba, Vincenzo Riccardi, Sofie Dodgson, Ellie Wright, Tatto Caballero and Pippa Bowland, Octobriana With Love goes on sale Nov. 3 from Dead Good Comics.
