After a year of revealing details on the next chapter of the Dragon Ball saga, the popular anime made its return to New York Comic Con for a panel to finally showcase the highly anticipated Dragon Ball Daima. It was a monumental event to kick off the convention to unveil merchandise, games, and events coming up for fans before giving them a taste of the new series.
Moderated by Monica Rial, the voice behind Bulma, she hyped the full crowd at Empire Stage to talk all things Dragon Ball. After displaying some wonderful things to experience at the Dragon Ball booth on the show floor, Rial unveiled a North American Tour to promote Dragon Ball Daima happening in three cities that would begin in November. The upcoming trip would make its first appearance at the Mall of America in Minnesota and then make its way to American Dream in New Jersey before ending early next year with a stop at West Edmonton Mall. Fans should expect some good things to come in time for the anime’s release.
The panel also had some big games to announce for the franchise, including the highly-anticipated fighting game Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. The show floor had the game on display for fans to try out as it’s already making waves here in the States. There were some updates given to previous titles like Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2 and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot in the form of new DLCs aligning with the release of Daima. Even mobile games like Dragon Ball Legends and Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle will be receiving some new content for the release of the latest series. The fun doesn’t stop there as the card game Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World will be celebrating its first anniversary with its “Battle Hour” event coming in January.
Moving into the main attraction of the panel for Dragon Ball Daima, the stage brought in executive producer Akio Iyoku along with English voice actors Stephanie Nadolny and Aaron Dismuke. Nadolny, who returns to voice the young version of Goku, said that she is excited to return to the franchise. Dismuke also got to chat about playing a role in the Dragon Ball universe, saying he’s seen the first episode and wanted to be a part of the series since auditioning for it. Iyoku revealed to audiences that they can catch the English dub of the first three episodes of Daima in theaters from November 10-12.
Fans were given a taste of what the Demon World looks like, the new setting for the upcoming series. Iyoku provided some illustrations to show on stage, which unveiled the late Akira Toriyama’s designs of the new world, its inhabitants, and some of the new characters coming into the story. He said the recently passed creator of Dragon Ball put so much detail into the designs and made sure his imprint was on this show. He hopes to show a different side of this franchise that audiences haven’t seen before. Characters like Glorio remain a mystery on whether he’s good or bad, allowing viewers to find out what side he’s on once the show airs.
After showing off the visuals of the series, a special message was shown from musical artist Zedd, talking about his collaboration with singers Keen of C&K and Ai to compose the show’s main theme songs. The German record producer composed the opening theme “Jaka Jaan” with C&K with the lyrics written by long-time Dragon Ball collaborator Yukinojo Mori. The show’s ending theme “Nakama” was also made by Zedd and Ai, who wrote the lyrics.
Before closing out the panel with the viewing of the first episode, the panelists created a photo opportunity with fans to make a big Kamehameha. Lastly, Goku voice actress Masako Nozawa delivered a heartfelt special video recording expressing her excitement for Dragon Ball Daima. She encouraged fans at the panel to make one final Kamehameha to celebrate.
Look out for more coverage of New York Comic Con coming up. Catch Dragon Ball Daima every week on Crunchyroll. Don’t forget to catch the English dub of episodes 1-3 in theaters on November 10-12.
