No Way Home’s [SPOILER] May Merge the MCU and the Spider-Verse

[ad_1]

One of the many villains from Spider-Man: No Way Home could be at the center of a multiversal story that ties the MCU to the Spider-Verse.

Marvel’s Spider-Man has some of the superhero genre’s most iconic villains, counting serious powerhouses among his colorful gallery of rogues. Many of these villains recently appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all brought into that reality by mistake. As a result of this interdimensional incursion, they may have set the groundwork for a future crossover with other Spider-characters.

As opposed to more instantly iconic villains like Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus, an army of Electro variants once threatened the entire multiverse. They also set the precedent for Electro to potentially become a big enough villain for the heroes of the Spider-Verse films to take on, with his most recent appearance even setting up how Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men could get involved.

Spider-Man: No Way Home reintroduced many classic Spider-Man cinematic villains, including Electro. Originally played by Jamie Foxx in Amazing Spider-Man 2, the character was given a greater degree of control over his powers in his MCU appearance. Intrigued by the potential power of one of Iron Man’s Arc Reactors, Electro was eventually depowered and sent back to his reality with a potentially dangerous amount of knowledge regarding the multiverse, paving the way for him to potentially become an even greater threat in the future.

The Electro-Verse concept debuted in Web Warriors #1 (by Mike Costa and David Baldeón). After witnessing the murder of his world’s Spider-Man at the hands of Morlun, the Electro of Earth-449 dedicated himself to traveling across the multiverse. After recruiting an army of Doctor Octopus variants to serve as his engineers, this Electro rallied an entire army of Electro variants. Led by the living energy variant known as the Battery, this shockingly powerful group came into direct conflict with the Web Warriors for the fate of the entire multiverse, and were nearly successful in destroying the heroes of the Spider-Verse.

As one of Spider-Man’s most powerful foes, it makes sense that an entire army of Electros would pose a serious problem for almost any reality. With the Jamie Foxx incarnation of the character now firmly aware of the multiverse, there’s a chance he could try to achieve something similar, and could even become something similar to the Battery if he finds a way to restore his powers. It’s an interesting concept, and could serve as a fun conflict for the universe-hopping heroes featured in Into The Spider-Verse.

Having worked together to save entire universes before, the upcoming sequel to the first Spider-Verse film suggests that Miles Morales and his allies will be traversing the multiverse dealing with new threats. An army of Electros would be a fun threat for them to face, giving the Web-Warriors a genuinely difficult kind of threat to overcome. On top of that, the connection to the MCU and the Amazing Spider-Man universes could allow them to have an easy entry point into any potential crossover with the cinematic universe. This could also be a great showcase for Foxx’s Electro, who got a new energetic lease on life in his MCU debut.
