Spider-Man: No Way Home’s touching goodbye scene was, according to star Tom Holland, inspired by a real-life moment he shared with his co-stars.
Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland recently touched one of the film’s most emotional moments and how it was inspired by a real-life moment he shared with co-stars and fellow Spider-Mans, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Holland revealed that the real-life moment took place while filming the rooftop scene that united the three heroes. Because one of the shots required intense emotion, Holland approached his co-stars to thank them. He explained, “And I said to them, ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you for doing this. Thank you for being here. Thank you for elevating Spider-Man in the ways that you have. Thank you for being so gracious and allowing me to share this with you. Thank you for taking a leap of faith and coming back.'”
He continued, “Tobey hadn’t acted in nearly 10 years, so we all embraced each other, and we were all crying because it meant so much to us. And Jon Watts, Amy Pascal and the writers saw this moment between the three of us and were like, ‘Brilliant! Well, now we know how they’re going to say goodbye to each other.’ So essentially, we just reshot that very real moment between the three of us.”
Although the three stars shared a number of scenes together, not all of them made it into the theatrical release of the film. The Blu-ray release of Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to feature at least 100 minutes of bonus content, reportedly including a deleted scene featuring all three Spider-Men. Along with five deleted scenes, content will include 20 featurettes, bloopers, visual effects breakdowns, Easter eggs, cast panel discussions and more.
When it comes to the future of Holland’s career as Spider-Man, as well as future appearances from Maguire and Garfield, there is both potential and uncertainty. Holland recently teased future team-ups involving the three Spider-Men. In an interview, Holland said, “It was one of those things — it was a an idea for a long time and an idea that always seemed impossible… Could it happen? Of course it could happen. We’ve done it once before. Will it happen? I don’t know.”
In addition, Maguire himself recently suggested he was not willing to call No Way Home a conclusion to his time as Spider-Man. While discussing the film, he said, “There are personal things, too, which are kinda resolutions or a way to revisit and to get back into that and, I don’t wanna say, like, ‘close the chapter,’ but ‘revisit’ and have certain resolutions and just join in this loving creative spirit.”
