Marvel Studios releases the full scene of Peter Parker ruining Doctor Strange’s spell and unleashing the multiverse from Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Marvel Studios released the full scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker ruining Doctor Strange’s spell.
In the scene, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is attempting a spell to make everyone forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Strange begins by saying, “Nice knowing you, Spider-Man.” This leads Peter to attempt to edit the spell to include his girlfriend MJ, his best friend Ned and his Aunt May. As Peter continues to talk, Stange loses control of the spell, causing the ground to fall away, presumably breaking the multiverse wide open.
This scene has been teased since the first teaser trailer was released, with Doctor Strange telling Peter Parker, “When you botched that spell where everyone forgets that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, we started getting visitors.” However, some TV spots for No Way Home have slightly altered Strange’s dialogue to, “When I shut that spell down, we started getting visitors.” While the scene ends before the spell is full cast, it is the antithesis for part of the film’s plot, as it breaks open the multiverse, allowing villains from previous Spider-Man franchises, like Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, to enter into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While it’s unclear how the results of the spell will affect the relationship between Stephen Strange and Peter Parker, Holland has hinted that No Way Home will explore, in part, the evolving (and devolving) relationship between the characters. In a recent interview, the actor spoke about the film’s depiction of their relationship, particularly how it differs from MCU Spidey’s relationship with his mentor, Tony Stark.
“I wouldn’t consider Doctor Strange as a mentor in this film — it’s more as a colleague,” Holland said. “At this point in the films, Spider-Man has established himself as quite a powerful and serious Avenger. Doctor Strange sees that in him and treats him like an equal. And throughout the course of the film, their relationship breaks down. And rather than becoming colleagues — they don’t become enemies, but they’re definitely not friends.”
The story for the highly anticipated MCU film has been kept tightly under wraps, Marvel Studios and Sony Entertainment are reportedly hiding parts of the movie for press screenings, only showing about 40 minutes of the film, the final runtime of which clocks in at just about two and a half hours long. Recently, Marvel released the first minute of No Way Home, which picks up immediately from where Spider-Man: Far From Home left off with J. Jonah Jameson revealing Spidey’s secret identity to the world.
Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: No Way Home releases Dec. 17.
