No Time to Die’s Daniel Craig Says He’ll Miss Playing James Bond

Daniel Craig says he’ll miss everything about playing James Bond after starring as the special agent in the last five films in the Bond franchise.

Daniel Craig revealed in a new interview what he’ll miss most about portraying James Bond after wrapping up his tenure in No Time to Die.

“I’ll miss everything, I think. I’ll miss the collaboration,” Craig told Entertainment Weekly. “I mean, hopefully, I’ll keep working and I’ll have lots of other lovely jobs, but it’s very, very, very rare air.”

Craig added that, outside of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, being a part of the Bond film franchise will be hard to top, noting “I’ve had the privilege of being involved in it.”

“…It was there before me, and it will be there after me,” the actor continued. “But I’ve had a chance to be part of all of this, and if you can’t get it up for a Bond movie as an actor, what can you get it up for? So, yeah, I’ll miss it a lot.”

Craig took over the role of Bond from Pierce Brosnan and made his debut as the agent in 2006’s Casino Royale. He reprised the role in Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015). It was previously confirmed that No Time to Die will mark the 53-year-old actor’s last appearance as 007.

Craig’s comments about missing the role came just days after he said on the red carpet at the No Time to Die premiere that he has no interest in ever returning as Bond and doesn’t really care who takes over the role next. Specifically, Craig told reporters that casting his replacement is “not my problem.”

In related news, it was reported this week that No Time to Die boasts a run time of 163 minutes, making it the longest film in the Bond franchise to date. In comparison, the first Bond film — 1962’s Dr. No — ran 110 minutes. Thanks to the running time of No Time to Die, Craig now holds the honor of headlining both the longest and shortest Bond film, with the franchise’s shortest film being the Craig-led Quantum of Solace (106 minutes).

The latest spot for No Time to Die celebrates Craig’s decade-and-a-half long run as Bond. Specifically, the teaser opens with the iconic shot of Craig in his swim trunks from Casino Royale, which showed him saying, “The name’s Bond. James Bond,” for the first time. The video then cuts to the opening chase scene from Skyfall, before cutting to footage of Bond and Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux) on the run in the latest Bond film. It also features the text “Every mission has led to this.”

Directed by Cary Fukunaga and starring Daniel Craig, No Time to Die will be in theaters on Oct. 8.
