While domestically it was all about Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the international box office was soaring as No Time To Die blew away the conservative pre-weekend projections according to Deadline. The fifth and final time Daniel Craig will play the role of James Bond is estimated to make $119.9 million making it the first Hollywood film to launch to $100 million plus during the pandemic without China being one of the markets.
The film is in line with the numbers for Skyfall and tracking about 21% behind Spectre all while having to deal with pandemic restrictions in most markets. In the UK, it’s already the top grossing film in that market during the pandemic in just four days. However, due to the growing costs of production and the delaying and No Time to Die, the movie reportedly requires a box office return of $900 million just to break even.
That’s going to be a hard goal to reach, but let’s see how it does when it arrives in the states and in China. But the reviews are coming in and the film is getting raves, or at the very least isn’t as woke as it was marketed. So we will see.
Set five years after the capture of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, No Time to Die finds James Bond having left active service. His peaceful life is short-lived, and he is approached by his friend and CIA officer Felix Leiter, who enlists his help in the search for Valdo Obruchev, a missing scientist. When it becomes apparent that Obruchev has been abducted, Bond must confront a villain whose schemes could see the death of millions.
Featuring Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007, No Time to Die is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga from a screenplay by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, Fukunaga, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Christoph Waltz, Rory Kinnear, and Ralph Fiennes reprise their roles from previous films, with Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, Ana de Armas, Dali Benssalah, Billy Magnussen, and David Dencik joining the cast as new characters.
No Time To Die opens in the U.S. on October 8th.
