Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Welcomes the Lasagna-Loving Garfield

[ad_1]

Garfield joins the roster of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl in a free content update coming later this December, announces developer Ludosity.

The characters of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl should probably hide their lasagna; Garfield the beloved cartoon cat will soon join the roster as the game’s first DLC fighter.

Following the release of All-Star Brawl earlier this year, developer Ludosity promised to gradually expand the lineup of playable characters in the Nickelodeon-themed crossover fighting game. And now, the studio is delivering on its promise. Garfield, the lazy, lovable orange cat created by the cartoonist Jim Davis in 1976, will join the game as a playable fighter in a free content update coming later this month. The team announced the new character with a trailer, providing an early glimpse at Garfield’s move set and character stage.

The trailer pits Garfield against All-Star Brawl‘s wide array of Nickelodeon icons, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Ren and Stimpy, and Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s Toph Beifong. Despite Garfield’s usual tendency toward laziness, the cat spends the trailer using footballs, rolled-up newspapers and even his friend Pooky the teddy bear to lay a definitive smackdown on his opponents. The cat’s ravenous diet also carries over to the game’s next fighting arena, a battleground constructed entirely out of the character’s favorite foods.

Garfield is the first of two free character updates coming to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Ludosity previously confirmed that more DLC characters will join the roster after the first two updates, but these will not be free. The release window and central character for the second update are still unknown.

Originally famed as a newspaper comic strip character in the 1970s, Garfield has since appeared in various television shows and video games as well as a duology of live-action movies in the early 2000s. Nickelodeon’s parent company, ViacomCBS, acquired the rights to the character in 2019, and is currently developing a new animated series for the channel. An animated Garfield feature film is also in development from studio DNEG starring Chris Pratt in the leading role.

Play as Garfield when he joins Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC on Dec. 9 and the Nintendo Switch on Dec. 21.
