NCIS Introduces McGee’s Mother-In-Law | CBR

When his mother-in-law finds a dead body on a cruise ship, McGee knows that NCIS’ latest investigation is going to cause him some grief.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for NCIS Season 19, Episode 7, “Docked,” which aired Monday November 8th on CBS.

Last week’s episode of NCIS spotlighted Special Agent Torres and all of the things he’s lost recently. The way he helped a young petty officer overcome a similar loss was inspirational. This week’s new NCIS, however, had a dramatically different tone as Special Agent McGee found himself in the middle of some drama – family drama. He tried to “play Switzerland” for a while, but eventually had to choose a side between his wife and his mother-in-law, and watching him squirm was rather humorous.

“Docked” opened with a woman finding a murdered Navy commander inside a cruise ship’s sauna room, but she was no ordinary woman. Her name was Judy Price Fielding, McGee’s mother-in-Law. Delilah —McGee’s wife — has apparently become a helicopter daughter ever since her dad died, so McGee knew that he was in for trouble, especially since Judy lied to Delilah about being on the cruise in the first place.

At first, Judy said that she didn’t know the deceased Commander Burrows, but as Special Agent Parker’s team started the investigation, it was clear the she was lying. A search of Burrows’ cabin quickly turned up covert surveillance equipment, but the search also uncovered a wine glass with Judy’s fingerprints on it. Because of that, she was forced to admit that the two of them had been intimate, which was an awkward conversation for McGee. After that, Judy seemed to be in the clear, until her living room blew up as McGee and Delilah were taking her home.

With an attempt being made on Judy’s life, she entered protective custody at McGee’s house. It was the safest place for her to be, but caused some stress for McGee. Amidst constant bickering, Judy ended up ordering food, which was a bad idea for someone trying to not get killed. When the delivery guy arrived, he fumbled with the bag, making McGee think that he was going for a gun. In reality, he was just pulling out flowers. To everyone’s surprise, it turned out he and Judy had previously been engaged, and he wanted to get back together.

When Judy wasn’t having it, he decided to take back the expensive purse he had previously given to her as a gift. When she angrily dumped all the contents of it, an envelope with “NCIS” written on it in Commander Burrows’ handwriting fell out. Inside was a playing card. From there, everything stared to fall into place. They already knew that Burrows was investigating the “accidental” death of a cruise worker when he was killed, but the playing card solved the case. It was covered in toxic waste, and it turned out that the cruise’s captain and security officer were dumping barrels and barrels of the waste into the ocean and had killed twice to keep their secret.

The end of the episode brought a resolution to the case, but it also resolved things between Judy and Delilah. The two weren’t really on speaking terms after news of Judy’s engagement came out, but Tim was done with the fighting. He sat them down, and told them that they were both wrong. Delilah needed to stop being overprotective, and Judy needed to stop shutting her daughter out. Neither was happy with McGee at first, but eventually, they all saw eye to eye. The closing seconds showed Judy leaving for an African Safari with her fiancé. While they all made peace, McGee was probably glad that Judy would be away for a while.

To see what McGee, Torres and the rest of the team do next, watch CBS’ NCIS on Monday nights at 9 pm. ET.
