Naomi writer/executive producer Ava DuVernay celebrates the start of filming with a behind-the-scenes photo from The CW’s latest DC series.
Production on The CW’s upcoming DC television series Naomi is officially underway.
In a post to Twitter on Aug. 23, Naomi writer/executive producer Ava DuVernay shared a photo of a clapperboard featuring the show’s logo and the names of director DeMane Davis and cinematographer Cliff Charles. “Day 1. Take 1. Season 1. NAOMI,” DuVernay wrote.
It was first reported back in December 2020 that DuVernay had partnered with Arrow writer/executive producer Jill Blankenship for a live-action Naomi show at The CW. Naomi received a pilot order this past February, with Kaci Walfall being cast as the eponymous superhero in March. Naomi‘s pilot entered production in April, with the show receiving a full series order in May. It is expected to arrive on The CW sometime next year, with DuVernay and Blankenship having written Season 1’s premiere episode.
Created by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker and Jamal Campbell, the character of Naomi McDuffie first appeared in Naomi #1, which DC Comics published in January 2019 under Bendis’ Wonder Comics imprint. Named for Milestone Media co-founder Dwayne McDuffie, Naomi is a teenage superhero with energy-based powers who hails from alternate Earth.
Naomi is scheduled to premiere on The CW in 2022.
