My Hero Academia is a smash-hit superhero action anime series with an ensemble cast of characters, starting with the shonen protagonist Izuku Midoriya himself. Izuku and his classmates, including Shoto Todoroki, have gotten into all kinds of fights, both on and off U.A.’s campus. They’re not afraid of a fight.
Shoto is famed for his dual-element Quirk and vast natural talent, but remarkably, Shoto is still pushing himself to become even stronger and go Plus Ultra to become the next #1 hero someday. Shoto may have started off strong, but he still has a proper character arc where he keeps growing as a person and as a fighter.
10 Shoto Todoroki Vs Tenya Iida
The U.A. sports festival was an exciting tournament arc where many students from class 1-A, and a few from class 1-B, got a chance to show what they’re really made of. Shoto fought four matches in the final tournament, and in the semi-finals, he went up against the runner hero Tenya Iida.
Tenya had the advantage at first and used Recipro Burst to take Shoto by surprise and land a heavy kick. Then, Tenya tried to drag Shoto out of the arena, only for Shoto to clog his Engine Quirk’s exhaust vents with ice, stopping Tenya cold. Shoto then froze Tenya’s whole body to win the match.
9 Shoto Todoroki Vs Katsuki Bakugo
The final match of the sports festival pitted Shoto against the explosive Katsuki Bakugo, and everyone was looking forward to this fight, most of all Bakugo himself. In particular, Bakugo wanted Shoto to use both halves of his Quirk to provide the ultimate challenge, but Shoto didn’t deliver.
Instead, Shoto used only ice, and he slowly but surely fell behind as Bakugo kept pressing him with explosive techniques. Shoto eventually lost, and Bakugo demanded, in vain, for Shoto to fight at full strength to make this victory mean something.
8 Shoto Todoroki & Allies Vs Stain The Hero Killer
Not long after the sports festival ended, Tenya Iida ran off to avenge his pro hero brother, Tensei, who had lost badly to Stain the hero killer. Izuku and Shoto both rushed onto the scene to back up their classmate, and the three of them resisted Stain with all they had.
Shoto fell victim to Stain’s terrifying Bloodcurdle Quirk, but he kept fighting regardless, and he and Izuku managed to carve out a narrow and well-deserved victory before the flame hero Endeavor intervened to take care of things and haul Stain away.
7 Shoto Todoroki Vs Nobu
Shoto appeared in all three My Hero Academia movies, starting with Two Heroes, which took place on I-Island. Several villains had stormed the place and had taken everyone, including All Might himself, hostage, and it was up to class 1-A’s best students to save the day.
Shoto and Bakugo went up against villains named Nobu and Daigo, and Shoto fought against Nobu, who could neutralize his ice. Then, Shoto and Bakugo turned the tables by coordinating their attacks, and Shoto set off Bakugo’s sweat-fuel with his fire to harm Nobu. Following that, Shoto took his chance to trap Nobu in ice to finish the battle.
6 Shoto Todoroki & Inasa Yoarashi Vs Gang Orca
During the provisional license exam, Shoto ran into a familiar face – Inasa Yoarashi, an ace student from the elite Shiketsu heroic school. Shoto had made a terrible impression on Inasa in the past, and now they started butting heads once again. But they had a common enemy in the exam, Gang Orca.
Gang Orca and his minions posed as villains, and neither Shoto nor Inasa could win the day alone. So, Shoto reluctantly teamed up with Inasa, and they pooled their talents to create blistering-hot gales that dried up the aquatic Gang Orca and put him on the defensive. Gang Orca was impressed.
5 Shoto Todoroki Vs Leviathan
In the third feature-length movie, World Heroes’ Mission, Izuku, Shoto, and Bakugo became the three key heroes to stand against the villainous Flect Turn and his Humarise organization. While Bakugo fought Serpenters and Izuku went after Flect, Shoto confronted the mighty villain Leviathan.
Leviathan had a powerful water-based Quirk, and he had a serious advantage over Shoto at first. The battle seemed hopeless, but with sheer willpower, Shoto went Plus Ultra and demolished Leviathan from the inside, scoring a narrow but hard-won victory with brute force.
4 Shoto Todoroki & Momo Yaoyorozu Vs Shota Aizawa
At one point, the students of class 1-A had to form pairs and fight against their own teachers, and Shoto, who relies heavily on his Quirk, was partnered up with the brilliant Momo Yaoyorozu. They struggled at first against their homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. Shoto can’t do much without his Quirk, after all.
Shoto shared some encouraging words with Momo, which helped Momo shake off her self-doubt and form an effective battle plan. Then, Shoto backed up Momo with his ice and fire alike, and they managed to finally capture Aizawa before he could erase their Quirks again. No wonder so many fans ship Shoto with Momo.
3 Shoto Todoroki Vs Seijin Students
This was Shoto’s other major battle during the provisional hero license exam, and this time, he had to fight all alone. He had gotten separated from most of class 1-A, and then a handful of ninja-like student heroes from the Seijin school surrounded him, then pelted him with their Quirks.
Shoto was on the defensive at first, but then he used both halves of his Quirk to create a smokescreen and take his enemies by surprise. In the end, Shoto triumphed, freezing some foes solid while blasting others sky-high. Shoto has the firepower of a small team, all by himself.
2 Shoto Todoroki & Teammates Vs Class 1-B’s Team
The joint training story arc pitted class 1-A against its rival, class 1-B, in team-based battles. The third round included Shoto Todoroki, who fought alongside Mashirao Ojiro, Tenya Iid, and the six-armed Mezo Shoji against Juzo Honenuki’s own team.
Shoto fought hard in this battle, even when Juzo took everyone by surprise by turning Shoto’s ice into a squishy tar pit of sorts. Shoto also went Plus Ultra to break through Tetsutetsu’s steely defenses, and he helped knock over a water tower to help knock out another student. In the end, though, the battle was a draw.
1 Shoto Todoroki Vs Izuku Midoriya
This was the most significant battle of the U.A. sports festival and Shoto’s character arc, and not just because Shoto happened to win the fight. Whether Shoto won or lost, the important part is that Izuku’s personal appeal got through to Shoto and helped the latter break his mental barriers.
Shoto refused to use his fire at first, but when Izuku spoke to him, Shoto finally used both halves of his Quirk. That was a turning point for both him and Endeavor, who was watching. The final clash in this fight was massive, and Cementoss had to intervene to prevent any fatalities.
