More Broken Canon in Disney’s ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ TV Series

Some Star Wars fans are quite upset at the potential plot hole created by the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. I’m not talking about their killing of the Grand Inquisitor in episode two… that has already been resolved in the most recent episode. This is more focused on the holographic message Princess Leia records on R2-D2 and how it opens with her addressing Kenobi as “General Kenobi, years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars…”

With the new series, Obi-wan and Leia are becoming close and the formal opening of the message doesn’t seem appropriate. But fans shouldn’t judge before all the evidence is shown. According to writer/executive producer Joby Harold, this is something that will be addressed.

He told EW.com: “We talked about it a lot. And we’re looking forward to the show airing in its entirety so that hopefully all questions are answered fully. So it’s tricky to field some of those questions mid-process. But yes, all I can say is we’re very cognizant of that, and of canon.” We’ll see how they attempt to handle the situation today.

No comment on how Obi-Wan Kenobi seemingly forgot that he watched security footage of Anakin Skywalker becoming Lord Vader when he turned to the dark side. No comment on Moses Ingram’s Third Sister skewering the Grand Inquisitor with her lightsaber, seemingly killing him, even though he can’t actually be dead, since the character was a main villain in Star Wars: Rebels, which canonically takes place five years after Kenobi.

And of course, there is the issue of the lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, even though it’s been known by fans for 17 years that the two foes met again for the first time since 2005’s Revenge of the Sith in 1977’s Star Wars (A New Hope).

There are so many other canon issues with this series, I’ve concluded there are really only three Star Wars movies, and a whole lot of fan fiction.
