Moon Knight Just Revealed He’s as Mentally as Strong as a Marvel God

[ad_1]

Since fighting the Avengers, Moon Knight has steadily been growing in power and he hints at the origins behind the nature of his recent upgrades.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Moon Knight #2, on sale now from Marvel.

Over the past few months, Moon Knight has gone from a street-level superhero with delusions bordering on full-blown psychosis to a power player able to singlehandedly able to take on the might of the Avengers. And while Moon Knight may have patched up things with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and gone back to defending the Marvel Universe’s forgotten residents, Marc Spector has evidently not grown any weaker with his new direction for his crimefighting crusade. And while on a new case as the self-appointed patron saint for the Marvel Universe’s monster community, Moon Knight hints at the full extent and origins of his cosmic power levels.

While no longer in service of the Ancient Egyptian God of Vengeance Khonshu, Marc decides to put his skills to good use, opening a private practice named the Midnight Mission in New York City to take on supernatural cases for those with nowhere else to turn for help. One of the first cases Moon Knight takes on involves a shady building supervisor named Hawley, whose sweat makes those that come into contact with it under his fiendish will. With Hawley intent on building his own army, he reveals that he lured Moon Knight into a trap to become his latest unwilling recruit while hinting that Moon Knight has made some powerful enemies gunning for him. However, in Moon Knight #2 — by Jed MacKay, Alessandro Cappuccio, Rachelle Rosenberg and VC’s Cory Petit — the superhero quickly turns the tables by providing a glimpse at his own lunar-based powers.

Moon Knight God Mind 1

After learning that those that consume Hawley’s sweat are connected in a sort of neural network, Moon Knight willingly licks a drop of sweat to interface directly with the supervisor’s mind. Rather than immediately become a mindless drone like all of Hawley’s other victims, Moon Knight reveals that his own mind has forever been tainted for being in deep and longstanding communion with an ultraterrestrial being like Khonshu. As a terrified Hawley realizes Marc Spector and all of his dueling personalities have become a god in their own mind and the extent of Khonshu’s corruption begins to affect him, the rest of Hawley’s victims’ mental faculties are seemingly restored while Hawley remains comatose.

Moon Knight makes it clear that while he does indeed suffer from dissociative identity disorder, Khonshu’s influence has wrought something else entirely on his psyche. Sharing that the power of lunar light being worshipped for the entirety of human history has left an impact on a mortal like Marc Spector that has forever shaped his mind and physical capabilities. And in sharing just a taste of this mental influence with Hawley, the sinister supervisor’s mind has seemingly snapped as Moon Knight continues to tease that he is quietly one of the strongest heroes on Earth.

Moon Knight God Mind

This moment explains how Moon Knight’s incredible abilities extend to mental powers while providing a supernatural explanation to how his mental illness was exacerbated by Khonshu. Even without working for his godly benefactor anymore, Moon Knight has continually shown new sides to his powers and how they’ve shaped his outlook and abilities. More than just formidable on the physical aspect of heroics, Moon Knight has quietly revealed himself as especially dangerous on a mental level as well. And this hints that the full extent of Marc Spector’s powers still have yet to be seen.
