In honor of Women’s History Month, Disney’s leading lady Minnie Mouse will don a new pantsuit as part of Disneyland Paris’ 30th anniversary.
Minnie Mouse’s costume will be getting a fashionable redesign at Disneyland Paris in celebration of Women’s History Month this year.
The iconic mouse will be sporting a designer pantsuit this March as part of Disneyland Paris’ 30th anniversary, Disney fan club D23 announced. Minnie’s first pantsuit will be created by British fashion designer Stella McCartney, the daughter of former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney. “I am delighted to be working with the one, the only, the iconic Minnie Mouse,” McCartney shared. “Minnie has always had a special place in my heart. We share the same values. What I love about Minnie is the fact that she embodies happiness, self-expression, authenticity, and that she inspires people of all ages around the world. Plus, she has such great style!”
McCartney elaborated on her design choices for Minnie’s upcoming pantsuit, saying, “I wanted Minnie to wear her very first pantsuit at Disneyland Paris, so I have designed one of my iconic costumes—a blue tuxedo—using responsibly sourced fabrics,” she explained. “This new take on her signature polka dots makes Minnie Mouse a symbol of progress for a new generation.” A Minnie Mouse t-shirt will also be designed by McCartney to be sold online and in Stella stores exclusively on International Women’s Rights Day, Mar. 8. The designer’s collection inspired by the 1940 film Fantasia will launch Spring 2022.
Minnie’s new outfit was one of several announcements made by Disneyland Paris for the park’s 30th anniversary celebration. Minnie, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck will all sport new costumes as part of the park’s new show, Dream… and Shine Brighter!, which will celebrate “the power of laugh, passion, and dreams.” The show will also feature appearances from other Disney characters, such as Aladdin‘s Genie, Tangled‘s Rapunzel and Toy Story‘s Woody. Along with 60 new dishes and 350 exclusive shopping items, 2022 will also bring Avengers Campus to Disneyland Paris following its 2021 premiere opening at Disney California Adventure.
Minnie Mouse’s temporary Disneyland Paris redesign will follow the mixed response to the new look of Who Framed Roger Rabbit‘s femme fatale Jessica Rabbit as part of Disneyland California ride Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin. The formerly scantily-clad cartoon character now appears in a trench coat and fedora, as a newspaper article explains that she became a private detective after being inspired by her friend Eddie Valiant. Many fans believed that the redesign undermined Jessica Rabbit’s confident sexuality from the film in order to appease a puritanical crowd, while others lauded the change for updating Jessica to be a modern representation of women.
Disneyland Paris first opened its doors on Apr. 12, 1992. Minnie Mouse can be seen in her Stella McCartney pantsuit throughout March 2022 at the theme park.
