Minecraft is full of different monsters, items, and places to explore in a massive sandbox world. It also has magical, enchanting capabilities, which can be done by sacrificing lapis lazuli and some experience to an enchanting table or finding an Enchanted Book.
These books can be found as loot in chests spread out in various structures throughout the game. Sometimes they can be traded for with a Librarian villager or fished up with a Fishing Rod. Additionally, sometimes items already enchanted can be picked up as loot either in chests or from very specific mobs. They can also be traded from villagers, including the Wandering Trader, with a bit of RNG luck.
10 Unbreaking Significantly Increases Durability
Unbreaking is an enchantment that can be applied to anything enchantable. That means tools, weapons, and armor. What it does is increase the durability of the object considerably. It has a maximum enchantment level of 3, which is more than enough to keep just about anything solid for a long time.
It couples perfectly with a Mending enchantment as that combination practically guarantees the permanency of whatever is being used. No longer are pieces of armor or tools being thrown into the void because the player forgot to keep an eye out for needed repairs.
9 Mending Repairs Items When Collecting Experience
Mending is another enchantment that can be applied to anything. This one makes it so any time the player collects experience orbs, it repairs the item with the Mending enchantment.
Coupled with Unbreaking, this enchantment can take that quality armor or those top-tier tools and make them permanent. This is especially true if the Keep Inventory on Death rule is active, as then there’s no fear of even losing the good stuff after a mistake or some bad luck.
8 Infinity Doesn’t Use Up Arrows
One of the most annoying things about bows in Minecraft is how much of a pain it is to get ammunition. Arrows are kind of annoying to make in general. Add on a special one or loot something good from a chest, and it becomes even more frustrating.
Infinity is an enchantment that can only be applied to bows and makes it, so arrows are not consumed once the bow is being fired. It’s similar to a trident’s Loyalty enchantment, where the trident will return to the player after being thrown. However, this one doesn’t need additional enchantment levels.
7 Respiration Makes Underwater Breathing Possible
Respiration is an enchantment that can only be placed on helmets. However, a command can be used to put it on other pieces of equipment. The enchantment allows for an extended time underwater, with Respiration III making it all but unlimited.
This is pretty much a required enchantment when heading out to attack Guardians at an Ocean Monument or to do some spelunking in a flooded cave in the new Caves & Cliffs update. Otherwise, there is going to be a whole lot of drowning and trying to find air pockets, cleverly placing and breaking blocks, or hanging out on a boat and hoping for the best.
6 Silk Touch Picks Up The Exact Block
For anyone that loves decorating, Silk Touch is almost a required enchantment. Silk Touch allows the actual block to be collected instead of breaking apart or turning into something else.
It saves time when trying to harvest stone instead of cobblestone, pick up ice blocks, or other similar collection goals. It can be attached to any tool; however, some thought still needs to be put into it when enchanting. Silk Touch will still fail if put on incorrect tools for the job, such as trying to pick up Diamond Blocks with a shovel.
5 Looting Increases The Loot Drops
Looting is an enchantment that can be applied to any melee weapon. It makes it so that any time a mob is killed with Looting, it will drop more than it would without it. It also has a little perk of making for a higher chance of rare drops.
It has a maximum enchantment level of 3, but that is more than enough. After just a little bit of time with a Looting weapon, the player is going to be swimming in so much stuff that it’s not even going to be funny anymore.
4 Efficiency Increases Mining Speed & Boosts Axes
Efficiency is an extremely useful enchantment that can be put onto tools. For example, when attached to a pickaxe, it increases the Mining Speed. When applied to an axe it gets extra bonuses even past cutting wood. It also increases the chance that it may stun a shield starting at 25% and increasing by 5% for each level of the enchantment.
In addition, It’s not just pickaxes and axes that are able to have it. Putting it on a shovel makes clearing dirt or snow a breeze. There’s not really much of a reason to put it on anything else. It’s pretty much a must-have for axes, however.
3 Protection Reduces Most Damage Types
There are a number of different damage reductions that can be attached to armors. However, Protection is a good, well-rounded option if just about everything is needed anyway.
What the most basic Protection does is that it reduces most damage types by 4% for each level. Since it only goes up to II, that is only about an 8% additional protection. Still, it’s to just about every type of damage, so it’s definitely a good one to have until the player needs to go for something a bit more specific.
2 Luck Of The Sea Increases The Rate Of Fishing Up Rare Loot
Fishing is hit or miss with Minecrafters. It’s a little bit of a pain to get used to, but afterward, it becomes an invaluable tool for collecting both food and some really good loot. The Luck of the Sea enchantment helps increase the chance of getting rare loot instead of useless junk, with enchantment level 3 giving out enough stuff that Steve and Alex could retire.
This is actually one of the most efficient ways to find Enchanted Books. Instead of hunting around all over the place trying to find a villager that might sell them, running around the map looking for lootable structures, or dumping tons of lapis and experience into the Enchanting Table, players can simply stand still and fish to their hearts’ content.
1 Aqua Affinity Speeds Up Underwater Mining
Water is one of few things that will significantly slow down the player’s speed, both when walking and when mining. Thankfully, there is an Aqua Affinity enchantment for helmets that allows for faster mining speed underwater. This is essential when spelunking in flooded caves, exploring sunken ships, battling through a monument, or when trying to quickly grab loot from the bottom of the ocean.
Depth Strider is a similar boots enchantment that makes movement speed underwater the same as above water. The two enchantments coupled with Respiration make it possible to stay underwater for a very long time. Just be sure to drink a Nightvision potion to clear up some of the water effects if the plan is to stay under for a while.
