Kohei Horikoshi joins the group of legendary manga artists who are helping Tite Kubo celebrate the 20th anniversary of his series, Bleach.
My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi has contributed a new piece of art to Bleach‘s 20th anniversary exhibition.
The creator of the popular superhero manga is the latest high-profile manga creator to contribute to Bleach Ex, an art exhibition currently being held in Tokyo, Japan that celebrates 20 years of Tite Kubo’s influential shonen manga and anime series, Bleach. While several of the other guest artists drew the series’ primary protagonists, such as Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki, Horikoshi dug a little deeper, and instead opted to draw the Soul Reapers’ mad scientist Mayuri Kurotsuchi and his artificially created “daughter,” Nemu. The illustration was shared online by Twitter user @Atsushi101x.
Horikoshi is the eighth guest manga artist to contribute to the big anniversary celebration of Tite Kubo’s work. In addition to the MHA creator, the exhibition also showcases art from One Piece‘s Eiichiro Oda, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba creator Koyoharu Gotouge, Naruto‘s Masashi Kishimoto, Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Gege Akutami, Black Clover‘s Yuki Tabata, Assassination Classroom‘s Yusei Matsui, and Dr. Stone creator Riichiro Inagaki. The group is an all-star line-up of the some of the most successful manga creators of all time, all of whom had their works published through Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.
Of course, most of the artwork at the exhibit is by Tite Kubo, who has been very busy in 2021. In addition to creating new art for the exhibition, Kubo is also overseeing the production of the new season of the Bleach anime, entitled Thousand Year Blood War. The new season will adapt the chapters of the Bleach manga that were released after the series’ original anime adaptation concluded its broadcast run. A stylish first trailer for the show was showcased at this year’s Jump Festa.
Kubo also released “No Breaths from Hell,” the first new chapter of the Bleach manga in over four years. While the chapter was originally promoted as a one-shot, standalone story, fans were delighted to discover that it was actually the prologue to a new adventure for Ichigo and the rest of the Soul Reapers. While Kubo has since stayed quiet about the possibility of a sequel series, many fans are now anxiously anticipating the announcement of an official continuation. Kubo is still currently working on his current manga series, Burn the Witch, which is set in the same world as Bleach but features a different cast of characters.
