Over the years MCU writers have repeatedly given us some incredibly iconic and brilliant dialogue. From Tony Stark’s sarcastic comments and Captain America’s never quit quotes to Vision’s wise words and Star Lord’s jokes, fans have never been short of great quotes to remember from the past 23 movies.
With the release of their new Disney+ shows, some fans may have questioned whether Marvel would keep up the same trend. But after WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and the first few episodes of Loki, it’s fair to say that the trend is continuing, with some actually slipping under the radar.
10 “But What Is Grief If Not Love Persevering” – Vision
Vision has always been one for wise words and a calm presence in the midst of a battle, but his romantic feelings towards Wanda were fleshed out properly for the very first time. Fans finally got a glimpse at what the synthezoid is like as not only a husband but also as a father to his two twins Billy and Tommy.
In fact, this very quote came from Captain America: Civil War but was shown in a flashback during episode 8, in which Vision tries to comfort Wanda over the loss of her brother Pietro. These wise words, especially since Vision even said he had never experienced loss like that before, are probably some of the most comforting and beautiful words that exist in the MCU.
9 “Symbols Are Nothing Without The Women And Men That Give Them Meaning” – Sam Wilson
Sam Wilson had a massive turning point in his life during the ending of Avengers: Endgame when Steve Rogers decided to live his life out in the past and pass on the mantle to Sam himself. However, right at the start of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam decides to surrender the mantle and the shield to the Government, deeming himself not the hero the people need.
This is where the quote above comes in, where Sam explains his decision. Luckily, after watching John Walker take on the mantle, and after stopping the Flag Smashers, Sam realizes that he is one of those women and men that give it meaning and officially becomes Captain America.
8 “Love Is A Dagger. It’s A Weapon To Be Wielded Far Away, Or Up Close. You Can See Yourself In It. It’s Beautiful. Until It Makes You Bleed.” – Loki
Loki has always been one for big speeches, but the new Disney+ show gave us a sneak peek into his past love life. Although the quote doesn’t exactly make complete sense, he was drunk after all and Sylvie even agreed to call it a terrible metaphor, it still, however, lets us know that Loki probably hasn’t been too successful in his love life before.
Even Hiddleston wasn’t too fond of the quote, but still says it shows that Loki’s experience of love has been a bumpy road and something he hasn’t necessarily ever gotten close to. It’s pretty sad when you think of it, poor Loki!
7 “This Is Chaos Magic Wanda, And That Makes You The Scarlet Witch” – Agatha Harkness
While this quote doesn’t have a hidden deep meaning or a sad metaphor, it has some pretty big consequences for the rest of the MCU. This is the very first time that Wanda Maximoff has been referred to as Scarlet Witch in the comics. More importantly, however, it is revealed that her powers come from chaos magic, but what does that really mean?
Well, like the entire MCU, the comics and the movies have a lot of differences, so it’s hard to tell what chaos magic is in the MCU. That being said, we do know for sure that it is extremely rare and powerful and is a different type of magic from that of Doctor Strange, which opens up multiple doors to some pretty cool magic and demons for the future of the MCU.
6 “You Got To Stop Looking To Other People To Tell You Who You Are.” – Sam Wilson
It’s fair to say that life was pretty tough for Bucky after the events of Avengers: Endgame. He was left in the future where he didn’t grow up, with no family or friends left from his old life, and with his best friend leaving him to live out his life with Peggy. In fact, for most of the series, Bucky spent his time struggling to fit in and find worth in himself.
Luckily, thanks to his list of amendments, and some sound advice from Sam Wilson once again, Bucky learned that his own worth is measured by himself and himself only, not the opinion of others. We’re so glad these two are besties now.
5 “No One Bad Is Ever Truly Bad. And No One Good Is Ever Truly Good.” – Loki
Another few wise words from Loki, this time during his conversation with his new bestie Mobius. “No one bad is ever truly bad. And no one good is ever truly good.” What does this quote really mean? Well, perhaps it’s just a long way to say that we all have bad traits and we all have good traits, but it’s most interesting as it comes from Loki.
Given as this is the Loki that didn’t go through the redemption arc of Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War, but he still sees good in himself. So, Loki is the perfect anti-hero, both good and bad, but mainly just mischievous.
4 “A Family Is Forever. We Could Never Truly Leave Each Other, Even If We Tried.” – Wanda Maximoff
A central theme of WandaVision was family. In fact, the entire series revolved around Wanda’s desperation for a happy life and family with Vision. This incredibly sad but also heartwarming quote shows just how much family means to Wanda, and part of what drives her to take over the town of Westview and control the minds of its residents.
It could also hint towards a return for Billy and Tommy in the future of the MCU, which could happen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The post-credits scene gave us a glimpse of Wanda using her chaos magic and we could hear Billy and Tommy in the background. Could they be returning?
3 “The Only Power I Have Is That I Believe We Can Do Better” – Sam Wilson
Yes, this is the third quote from Sam Wilson, the guy just has a knack for making awesome speeches. In fact, his very best speech came right at the end of the series, in a speech that captured exactly what it really means to be Captain America. It’s not about the suit or the shield, it’s about the person beneath the mask and how they see the world.
Sam has the perfect personality and heart to be Captain America, which is why after all, that Steve chooses him as his successor. Sam listens and wants to help people, which is why he is Captain America, and it only took him six episodes to figure it out.
2 “Existence Is Chaos. Nothing Makes Any Sense, So We Try To Make Some Sense Of It” – Mobius
Owen Wilson’s new Marvel character, Mobius, has already become a fan-favorite, especially thanks to his hilarious relationship with Loki. One moment that stands out from the early episodes of the series, was Loki and Mobius’ deep talk about time, existence, and the entire universe.
It was here that Mobius came up with the phrase “Existence is Chaos.” The phrase helped him justify his life in the TVA and how committed he is to the cause of protecting the sacred timeline. Could this also link to the future of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Wanda’s chaos magic, or perhaps the chaos caused by Sylvie’s time bombs in episode 2?
1 “Everybody In The World Expects Me To Something. And I Don’t Wanna Fail Them.” – John Walker
John Walker was a very controversial character in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but by the end of the series, after initially being the main antagonist of the show, had a little bit of redemption when he saved a group of people falling from a truck. In fact, at some points, Marvel made him such a compelling character that it was hard to not feel bad for him.
He was a good military man who suddenly felt consumed with way too much power and responsibility when trying to live up to Captain America’s name. This quote is the perfect example of his struggles, and it was one of his very first lines.
