Developer Bioware releases a stylishly cryptic poster for an as-yet-untitled Mass Effect game and fans can’t stop looking for hidden secrets.
Bioware is once again teasing fans about the next entry in the Mass Effect series, this time with a strange poster.
The image, posted to Twitter to celebrate N7 Day, a date created by Bioware to celebrate the Mass Effect franchise, the poster shows what appears to be a massive crater. What exists within the blue hole is unknown but some runes and etchings can be made out when examined closer. Four figures approach the destroyed terrain, having seemingly just dismounted a landed spacecraft. It’s unclear who the travelers are but they do possess different shapes, suggesting that the squad comprises of different species, potential a Human, a Krogan, an Asari and a Turian.
While the poster’s minutia is undoubtedly being investigated by diehard Mass Effect fans, others are looking at the image on a larger scale. Many have pointed out that the shape and color of the crater resemble the head of a Geth, a group of sentient, networked artificial intelligences that posed as an enemy faction in the original Mass Effect. A small scar in the terrain just below the main crater may also resemble a Geth body.
To further celebrate N7 Day, Bioware put together a brief blog post of announcements which includes a small section dedicated to the next game in the series. “We are, of course, hard at work on the next adventure in the Mass Effect universe. Until then, please accept our most humble thanks to you for accompanying us on this journey. We know we couldn’t do it without you — on N7 Day, or any other day,” reads the post.
While the poster may not reveal anything new about the upcoming game, it’s the most substantial piece of marketing fans have seen since the announcement trailer released in late 2020. Similarly cryptic, the cinematic teaser featured the return of fan-favorite character Liara T’Soni, suggesting that the next game will feature elements of the original trilogy rather than the controversial Mass Effect: Andromeda.
While fans of the long-running sci-fi RPG series wait patiently for the next game, they could kill time by checking out Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. This version revisits the classic trilogy, remastering and reworking several key areas. Overhauled combat, significantly improved graphics and animations and heaps of collected content should keep players busy for some time. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
