The X-Men are getting their very own version of Captain America with the debut of the mysterious Captain Krakoa in December’s X-Men #6.
A new hero is about to join the X-Men, and he appears to be Krakoa’s take on the super-soldier Captain America.
Marvel’s December 2021 solicitations contain the cover to X-Men #6, featuring a hero named Captain Krakoa. This new hero will officially join the team, though it doesn’t appear that Cyclops is all that enthusiastic about his addition. The solicitation asks the questions of “Who is he?” and “Why is he here?” which may mean the issue will spend time building up the mystery compared to providing readers any answers.
The X-Men #6 cover by artist Pepe Larraz displays a group of fans standing outside the X-Men’s new base of operations, the Treehouse, in the area of Central Park renamed Seneca Gardens. Captain Krakoa appears to be either hovering in the sky around the Treehouse, or standing on a section of the Treehouse as onlookers snap photos and videos with their mobile devices.
Captain Krakoa’s costume consists of a full bodysuit with boots, arm guards, shoulder pads and a half helmet covering his face. His color scheme matches the floral plants found on Krakoa. Of course, the upper half of Captain Krakoa’s face being hidden also maintains his air of mystery as readers speculate on who the new X-Men addition could be.
Writer Gerry Duggan and artist Pepe Larraz relaunched X-Men after the Hellfire Gala, where mutants threw a party and invited political and superhero guests to their mutant island. Two big events transpired at the Hellfire Gala: the X-Men terraformed Mars and turned it into Planet Arrako, and Scarlet Witch was secretly murdered. The latter is currently being followed up in the event series The Trial of Magneto.
X-Men #6 goes on sale in December from Marvel Comics.
