Marvel’s Thor Can’t Save The Avengers

[ad_1]

Avengers Forever #1 sees Earth’s Mightiest Heroes facing a perilous threat that may require the intervention of a powerful hero’s…granddaughters?

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Avengers Forever #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

The Avengers are facing their deadliest threat ever in the form of a multiversal band of villains who have already proven their power in a direct attack against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Thankfully, there may already be a few familiar reinforcements on the way to the multiversal battle who one notable Avenger already has experience working alongside.

Thor’s granddaughters from the King Thor timeline make their return on the final pages of Avengers Forever #1 (by Jason Aaron, Aaron Kuder, Cam Smith, Jason Keith, Triona Farrell, and VC’s Cory Petit), and they could be the secret weapon to holding their own against the multiversal Masters of Evil.

While most of the issue is focused on the alternate reality of Earth-818 (a world that’s been targeted and disrupted by the slaughter of their ancient Avengers), the final pages of Avengers Forever #1 takes place in the gulf between universes, where superstorms are ravaging out of control and disrupting realities. Riding through the storm is a single craft carrying the Goddesses of Thunder and guided by the enchanted hammer Mjolnir that was formerly wielded by their grandfather.

Despite the raging cosmic storm around them, the trio commit themselves to their journey and continue on through the cosmos. The Goddesses of Thunder debuted in Thor: God of Thunder #8 (by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribić), and are the granddaughters of King Thor — a version of the Avenger who grew old and fully assumed the throne of Asgard. After traversing time and space to help confront Gorr the God-Butcher, the three young women proved themselves heroes in their own right, fighting alongside the time-displaced version of their grandfather.

The trio of powerful Asgardian warriors were last seen fighting on to protect the restored universe their grandfather sacrificed himself to create, joining a new band of cosmic Avengers. Recruiting the trio could be a huge boon for the heroes, lending the heroes a greater chance to hold their own against the massive threat. All three are powerful in their own right, with their leader Frigg wielding Beta Ray Bill’s Stormbreaker, the hot-headed Atli claiming Jarnbjorn, and the flirtatious Ellisiv taking up Hogun’s Hridgandr. Each of them also possesses some of the power that fuels Thor, and the trio could be crucial allies, especially considering their experience in dealing with reality-threatening enemies.

The Goddesses of Thunder making an appearance in the upcoming battle against the Masters of Evil makes sense, given their established history of traveling across time and space. They’re also powerful in their own right, holding their own against massive threats and standing alongside the likes of the Phoenix. Having them fighting alongside the Avengers could be a major boon, especially considering the level of threat the Avengers are now facing.
