Marvel Comics reveals Bryan Hitch’s official cover for Venom #1, which arrives this October and sees a new Lethal Protector take up the mantle.
Marvel Comics has revealed artist Bryan Hitch’s official cover art for Venom #1, which arrives later this year to kick off a brand-new era for the Lethal Protector.
Venom #1 is written by Ram V and Al Ewing and illustrated by Hitch. This new creative team takes over for writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Stegman, whose character-redefining run on Venom concluded last month with the landmark issue #200. V, Ewing and Hitch’s new Venom title will launch in October, following the Extreme Carnage event.
Venom #200 (aka Venom #35, not counting legacy numbering) released on June 16. The issue saw Eddie Brock pass the mantle of Venom onto his son, Dylan Brock. After bonding with the symbiote, Dylan replaced Venom’s traditional webbing with chains. (Because, as it says in the gospel according to Todd McFarlane, “Kids love chains.”) As such, Hitch’s Venom #1 cover sees the new Lethal Protector using his chains to swing into action.

“Hot off the heels of Venom #200 and Extreme Carnage, this October will see the start of one of the most ambitious series in symbiote history: Venom #1! Announced last month, Marvel’s resident master of horror, Al Ewing, and titan of terror Ram V have teamed up to craft a mind-bending and gut-wrenching tale of symbiosis the likes of which the Marvel Universe has never seen,” Marvel said in its official release. “Rounding out this symbiote hivemind will be legendary artist Bryan Hitch, bringing his rich and detailed style to the Venomverse. The future of Venom lies in the hands of this mastermind team, and you won’t believe what lies ahead!”
Marvel announced the new Venom creative time in early June — a couple weeks before Cates and Stegman’s run ended with issue #200. “When my editors at Marvel reached out about taking on Venom alongside Al Ewing and Bryan Hitch, I was not prepared for the kind of creative thrill it has been ever since,” new co-writer V said at the time. “This story is going to expand and push the symbiote narrative and lore in even more unexpected and fantastic directions. It is also an utter thrill having the sort of call and response mechanic I’ve had with a writer like Al and an artist of Bryan’s caliber. Fans and new readers, strap in — you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.”
Written by Ram V and Al Ewing and illustrated by Bryan Hitch, with inks by Andrew Currie and colors by Alex Sinclair, Venom #1 goes on sale Oct. 13 from Marvel Comics.
