Professor X just demonstrated the power of telekinesis, but this isn’t the first time he has done so.

It is no secret that Professor X has one of the greatest telepathic minds in the Marvel Universe. However, in Inferno #4by Jonathan, Hickman, Valerio Schitt, Stefano Caselli, David Curiel and VC’s Joe Sabina, while battling Nimrod, Professor X demonstrated what could only be described as telekinetic powers. His usual tactic of waging a mental war was nullified due to Nimrod being a machine, but apparently he had a way to physically fight as well.
The thing is, though, this isn’t the first time Professor X has manifested telekinesis as a subset of his powers. Now that he’s proved he can use them again, it might even make him more formidable.
During the fight, Professor X demonstrated enough power and control to disassemble Nimrod instead of tearing him apart. The level of control Professor X used here seems to indicate that he has had time to master these abilities, suggesting they have always been in his arsenal. However, he was also becoming increasingly desperate and the telekinesis might have been triggered as a consequence, manifesting itself in such a complex way due to the professor’s innate genius and way of looking at the world.
This is not the first instance of Charles Xavier possessing telekinetic powers. He has demonstrated low-level telekinetic abilities in the past. This subset of his abilities is in no way as powerful as his normal telepathic ones, but in certain situations they can be extremely handy. This fight is one such instance, however there is evidence to suggest that these powers may not be an extension of his mutant genes, but rather a benefit from wearing the Cerebro helmet.
The helmet does give a boost to Professor X’s already formidable abilities as in Powers of X #1 (by Jonathan Hickman, R.B. Silva, Adriano Di Benedetto, Marte Gracia, Clayton Cowles), he was able to telekinetically lift a flash drive off of Mystique with a single gesture. If so, then that means the helmet is augmenting his powers in ways that haven’t been seen for years. It could also mean that the helmet is slowly helping Professor X reach the pinnacle of his mutant abilities, but the way the battle went may indicate that this act of telekinetic might probably won’t be seen again for some time.
Consider, if Cerebro is augmenting his abilities, then this suggests that Professor X still possesses that low-level telekinetic ability mentioned earlier. It is probably like a muscle that has gone without use, not being of much help to him in his day-to-day life. Cerebro’s assistance means that Charles can start to experiment more with his physical abilities to better help the X-Men.
That would make this recent use of telekinesis a massive step forward in his development. However, considering that Nimrod killed him not too long after and the regeneration cycle of Krakoa wiping away those recent memories, Charles most likely forgot what he was capable of. At face value it seems to be a loss, but this issue demonstrates what Charles is capable of and in all likelihood he will regain that level of power with his telekinesis one day.
