Marvel’s Marauders Brings X-Men 2099’s Brimstone Love to the Modern Era

Steve Orlando and Crees Lee’s Marauders Annual #1 pulls a major X-Men 2099 villain from Marvel’s future into the present day.

In January 2022, Marvel Comics is releasing Marauders Annual #1, written by Steve Orlando with art by Crees Lee. However, the creators won’t be alone, as they’re bringing back a quintessential X-Men 2099 villain: Brimstone Love.

“Taking the helm of Marauders is easily the most exciting moment of my career, especially when it’s my first-ever ongoing not just on Krakoa, but at Marvel in general,” Orlando said. “Exploding out of the team’s already-amazing adventures as part of Hellfire Trading, Captain Pryde’s new crew of Marauders will stop at nothing to bring endangered mutants to safety — to always go where they’re needed, not where they’re wanted. To mutant rescue, wherever it calls them!”

Created by John Francis Moore and Ron Lim, Brimstone Love debuted in 1993’s X-Men 2099 #3 and was the creator of the Theatre of Pain. His abilities include generating heat, light and fire, which are quite fitting considering his devilish appearance. Brimstone Love was last seen in 1995’s X-Men 2099 #25, where he teleported to parts unknown after being betrayed by Xi’an.
