Marvel’s Infinity Gauntlet Made Iron Man a God Way Before the MCU

[ad_1]

Iron Man recently received a titanic upgrade called God Armor. However, the Infinity Gauntlet gave him the power of a god long before this.

While Spider-Man may be famous for preaching that great power comes with great responsibility, he’s not the only Marvel hero who has put that maxim to the test. Iron Man’s latest upgrade, the God Armor, has seen him merge with a power meant for the cosmic villain Korvac and take on one of his most powerful forms ever. However, that won’t be Tony Stark’s first time working with unlimited cosmic power in comics, either. Back in 2011, Tony Stark received the immense power and responsibility of the Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers #12, by Brian Michael Bendis and John Romita Jr.

After the low-level kingpin called the Hood tried to unite all of the Infinity Gems, the Avengers teamed up with the Red Hulk to stop him. The heroes stripped Robbins of every stone except the RealityStone, Iron Man confronted and stopped the villain, which put the fully assembled Infinity Gauntlet in his hands.

Tony handled the power of the Gauntlet with a lot of conviction.  He had the power to do literally anything, and with that, he contemplated all the things he could do with it. He initially thought of doing something for himself which was bringing his father or Wasp back to life. Stark also realized he could save the entirety of humanity, by ending world hunger, poverty and war.

Iron Man resisted those temptations and realized that using the Gauntlet in this way would do more harm than good for humanity. Tony came to the conclusion that it would take away humanity’s free will and prevent the natural evolution of the human race over time. As this happened, the defeated Hood , Parker Robbins, mocked and taunted Iron Man, doubting that the hero had the will to wield the Infinity Gauntlet in the first place.

When it came time to take action, Iron Man did two things. Firstly, he sent Parker Robbins back to prison. After that, he told his teammates he was going to wish the Gauntlet and the Infinity Gems out of existence. In actuality, he did no such thing. Unknown to his compatriots, Tony was actually one of the members of the Illuminati, the secret organization of heroes that kept the universe safe from behind the scenes. He then took the gauntlet back to the Avengers’ headquarters and divided up the gems with the remaining Illuminati members.

Now, Iron Man has an immense challenge ahead of him. As a result of injuries he sustained while trying to take on the Avengers-level villain Korvac with just a few heroes in Christopher Cantwell and CAFU’s Iron Man, Stark now has to face the responsibility of having god-like power while fighting a new morphine addiction that resulted from the drip system in his suit. Even though Tony’s struggles with addiction are well-documented, he’s never faced them while wielding the power that his God Armor gives him.

With this kind of power at his disposal, decisions Tony makes need to be made with a sound mind, body, and conscience. The battle against Korvac is still raging on and growing more deadly with time. Tony has the power to change everything for the better, but it won’t matter unless he does the right thing with the immense power he possesses.

Iron Man has recieved a plethora of powerful upgrades over the years. They have ranged from marginal suit upgrades to the literal god-level power that comes with the Infinity Gauntlet. The God Armor upgrade is big news along with him now being called ‘Iron God’ in upcoming issues. Even so, the God Armor is not his first rodeo into the world of cosmic-level power, it was the Infinity Gauntlet.
