Developer Eidos Montreal confirms that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will actually require 80GB of storage space following impressive optimization.
Following extensive optimization, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will no longer require the previously specified 150GB of storage space for PC.
Announced on the game’s official Twitter account, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will require 70GB less than initially expected. “We wanted to give you an update on the final size of the PC version of the game, which will not be 150 GB. The team is in the last stages of optimizing the final game and we can confirm the file size will be approximately 80 GB at launch,” reads the tweet. While still a sizable install, it’s a marked improvement over the original size.

That 80GB storage requirement is limited to PC players as the Twitter account when on to confirm that players on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 will need around 50GB to install the game. The amount of space needed for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions is currently unknown but will likely be similar to PlayStation.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy places players in the boots of Star-Lord, the leader of the titular team of space-faring superheroes. While the overall plot of the game is currently unknown, Eidos Montreal confirmed that The Universal Church of Truth will play a significant role. Previous trailers have teased the inclusion of various Marvel characters, including Mantis, Lady Hellbender, the Blood Brothers and even Adam Warlock, who will soon be making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.
Music will also play a substantial role in Guardians of the Galaxy. Players will be able to initiate a “Huddle” in the middle of battle, prompting Star-Lord to quote some of his favorite 80s rock hits. The selected song will play over Peter’s Walkman and provide a buff to all the Guardians. The game’s licensed music includes classic works from artists like Rick Astley, Tears for Fears, Soft Cell and Blue Oyster Cult.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be a completely single-player title and will not feature any microtransactions. Every in-game costume will be unlockable by simply playing the game, a fact that has many fans excited following the controversial model used by Marvel’s Avengers. While the game based on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes has long been criticized for its frustrating live-service elements, Guardians of the Galaxy aims to be a complete experience without continuous content updates.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy saves your hard drive on Oct. 26 and will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
