Marvel’s Eternals will be getting a fall 2021 release date as originally planned.
Tweeted by Aaron Couch, Disney’s Chief Executive Officer Bob Chapek confirmed during a Q3 earnings call that when he said Marvel’s Eternals is a 2022 title, he meant the 2022 fiscal year. The release date for the Marvel Cinematic Universe film is still set for Nov. 5, 2021.

It was also recently revealed that Eternals would not be released simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+, following a commercial for the film that aired during the Summer 2021 Tokyo Olympics which ended with the phrase “only in theaters November 5.” This differs from other recent films that received dual releases, such as Black Widow, Cruella and Jungle Cruise. These dual releases have drummed up some controversy, however, especially after Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney alleging that the company violated her contract by releasing the film on Disney+ Premier Access.
Eternals won’t be the only Marvel Cinematic Universe film released exclusively in theaters. On the same Q3 earnings call, Chapek also confirmed that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be released only in theaters as well, saying “it’s going to be an interesting experiment for us,” as the film’s performance in theaters will inform Disney’s release strategies for future films. Shang-Chi arrives in theaters Sept. 3.
Directed by Chloé Zhao from a screenplay by Matthew and Ryan Firpo, Eternals arrives in theaters Nov. 5.
