Marvel’s Avengers, X-Men and Eternals War Kicks Off in Free Comic Book Day Title

[ad_1]

Marvel’s newly announced Judgment Day event kicks off this May in Free Comic Book Day: Avengers/X-Men #1.

This May, the newly announced event series Judgment Day — which pits the Avengers, the X-Men and the Eternals against one another — gets an official prelude in one of Marvel Comics’ Free Comic Book Day titles.

Free Comic Book Day 2022 is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 7. Marvel is slated to have three titles available as part of the promotion this year, including Free Comic Book Day: Avengers/X-Men #1, which was first announced back in December. Featuring a main cover by Judgment Day artist Valerio Schiti and a 1:1000 variant cover by Peach Momoko, Free Comic Book Day: Avengers/X-Men #1 itself features three separate stories.

The first story comes from Judgment Day writer Kieron Gillen alongside artist Dustin Weaver. This story leads directly into Gillen and Schiti’s Judgment Day event, which sees “the Avengers try desperately to avert a war between the Eternals and the X-Men.” Meanwhile, the second story comes from writer Gerry Duggan and artist Matteo Lolli, and will lead into the X-Men’s second annual Hellfire Gala.

The third and final story marks the “exciting” debut of Bloodline, “a new hero that Marvel has big plans for this year.” Bloodline’s introduction story comes from the team of writer Danny Lore and artist Karen Darboe.

“There’s a classic metaphor to describe the Marvel Universe — a toybox, which creators take toys out of, play with and put back,” Gillen said of having the opportunity to write Judgment Day. “I get it, but it’s never quite how I’ve seen it — I think ‘play’ in another way. I think of a music shop, with all these instruments with their different qualities suggesting different songs, different stories. For all the Marvel instruments I’ve played, I’ve never written an event. Writing an event is something different. It’s not like playing an instrument. It’s having all the instruments in the Marvel music shop. That’s not like writing a song. That’s like writing a symphony.”

Written by Kieron Gillen, Gerry Duggan and Danny Lore and illustrated by Dustin Weaver, Matteo Lolli and Karen Darboe, Free Comic Book Day: Avengers/X-Men #1 will be available on May 7.
