Spider-Man swings into action in Marvel’s Avengers, bringing an array of exciting moves centered around his trademark webs and technical know-how.
From a gameplay perspective, Marvel’s Avengers has been good about bringing in new heroes that are set apart by their respective abilities. This is perhaps best exemplified with Hawkeye and Kate Bishop, who, while both archers, features very different abilities. With the Spider-Man Hero Event now available for PlayStation players, there’s yet another awesome collection of abilities available for players to explore.
Unlike the other Avengers, Spider-Man is a more street-level hero. As a result, he doesn’t have the same bombastic moves that a King from Wakanda or a billionaire engineer would have. Instead, Spidey relies on innovative moves that bridge the gap between DIY and scientifically advanced. This result is an array of creative and devastating abilities and moves that allow players plenty of flexibility in how they want to build their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
Spider-Drone (Support Heroic)
The Spider-Drone is an independent drone that fires blasts at enemies to help mitigate the crowds of enemies Spider-Man may face. It can also be repositioned to get a better position or recalled to speed up its relaunch time. In the skill tree, it’s imperative to unlock both specializations and Battery Life to keep the drone on the field for 10 more seconds. Players should also unlock multitargeting to hit more enemies at once.
For those looking for DPS builds, High Emissions is a great skill that creates bigger web blasts. Healers should focus on Medical Attention as it heals players in intervals of 5 seconds, restoring 50% health. Defensive players should tailor their builds to Defensive Stance because it drops a barrier that reduces player damage by 30%. Finally, status effect players should unlock Efficiency Output, which increases the web status output by 25%.
Web-Bomb (Assault Heroic)
The Web Bomb sees Spider-Man throw a small web ball that explodes into a massive area of effect attack. Enemies caught in the AOE are inflicted with the immobilizing Webbed status. Higher levels offer a number of impressive customizations, making it an incredible utility for crowd control. Before tailoring to builds, players should unlock Fully Charged, which fills the intrinsic meter when the ability is triggered, and its specializations.
For players who want to focus on DPS, Extra, Extra! will increase damage dealt by 20%. Web Retraction pulls six enemies into one spot instead of spreading them out, allowing for concentrated attacks. For players who prefer a status effect build, Cobwebs increases the status build-up by 30%. Stuck On You creates a more personal attack by having Spidey punch an enemy, sticking the bomb to them before it blows up. Finally, All Webbed Up keeps enemies tethered for five more seconds.
Wrecking Ball (Ultimate Heroic)
Spider-Man’s ultimate heroic, Wrecking Ball, is a devastating callback to his past game appearances. Spidey creates a massive web ball and swings it overhead, slamming it to the ground and covering enemies in webs. Landing it also grants Spidey the Wrecking Ball buff, which increases his defense and damage output. The move is perfect for DPS builds, especially with both unlocked specializations and the upgrade Silk Strength, which increases the ability’s effects by ten seconds.
With Spider-Signal, Spidey flashes his iconic Spider-Signal before slamming the ball down, debuffing enemies for a perfect mix of crowd control and DPS. Extra Wind will increase the duration of the Wrecking Ball buff by two seconds with each enemy defeated. Spider’s Nest creates a ground trap of webs that instantly immobilizes enemies. The Brawler skill covers Spidey’s hands and feet in webs for even more damage after dropping the ball. Finally, Spun-Up boosts all web status damage by 10%, which is great for a team of Avengers wearing gear that does more damage to afflicted opponents.
